The Bartlett school board approved a management company Friday to oversee its recent purchase of space for a new district office.
Bartlett City Schools bought the property on Bartlett Square for $1,373,000, closing the deal on May 1. The school board signed a property management agreement with Makowsky Ringel Greenberg LLC of Memphis on Friday to oversee the building, which currently has several tenants.
The superintendent and other district office staff will be moving into the new space in phases, possibly starting as early as January 2018.
Jason Sykes, the district’s communications coordinator, outlined the benefits of the property acquisition: Moving the district’s central office will free up space at Bartlett High School where the central office is currently housed, and those areas will be returned to classroom spaces as part of the high school’s proposed $55-$60 million renovation project.With 60,000 square feet of space, the new central office building will have more than enough room for existing district personnel and will even include some community meeting space that might be used for school board meetings or other functions as needed.
Superintendent Dr. David Stephens said recently that the school district will work with current tenants in the building to see if any are interested in terminating their leases early.
A spokesman for the property management firm of Makowsky Ringel Greenberg was not immediately available for comment.
