A sky full of splendor is worth a trip to the Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center in Bartlett on Monday night. The public is invited to the city’s Star Spangled Fireworks Extravaganza on July 4. Events kick off at 6 p.m. with fireworks at 9:10 p.m.
Attractions will include music, a car display, children’s activities, concessions, and more. The center is at U.S. 70 and Appling Road.
The agenda includes:
- 6 p.m., opening ceremony with the Posting of the Colors by the Bartlett Police Department Honor Guard, the singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States.
- 6:15 p.m., welcome by Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald and a recognition of elected officials, members of the military, veterans and their families in attendance.
- 6:30 p.m., music by the Bartlett Community Concert Band.
- 7:45 p.m., music by Jamie Baker & the VIPs, a local favorite with plenty of crowd interaction.
- 9:10 p.m., 20 minutes of fireworks, rain or shine.
All activities will be on the lawn of the Bartlett Performing Arts & Conference Center (BPACC) and Appling Middle School.
In honor of the city’s sesquicentennial, Bartlett will bring out its stage coach for photos. Merchandise celebrating the city’s 150th birthday will be for sale, including T-shirts, golf shirts, baseball caps and golf towels.
When arriving, be aware of road closures: Appling Road between Southern Way and Flaherty Place will start closing to traffic at 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. Make plans to use Germantown Road to connect from U.S. 64 (Stage Road) to U.S. 70 (Summer Avenue). Appling Lake Drive will be closed to thru traffic.
Parking will be available in the lot of the Bartlett Recreation Center (BRC), the back lot at Appling Middle School and the field behind the the BRC. All these lots fill up fast and are located at the Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center. Parking will not be allowed on U.S. 70.
Handicap parking will be in the BRC parking lot. Enter from U.S. 70/ Summer Avenue to access the lot.
City officials ask that citizens please be patient and let Bartlett Police officers do their job of getting everyone out of the area as safely and quickly as they can after the event.
