The City of Bartlett will present its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Park. The event honors all those who have served our country.
Veterans Park is located adjacent to W.J. Freeman Park at the corner of Bartlett Blvd and Bartlett Road.
The event includes:
- Posting of the colors by the Bartlett Police Department Honor Guard
- National anthem sun by David Skelton
- Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance led by Walter L. Peggs Sr., U.S. Air Force Pastor, Fullview Baptist Church
- Welcome by David Horne
- Reading of “Veterans Day,” an original poem by Jeff Meece
- Guest speaker, David K. Dunning, retired colonel from the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps and current Medical Center
- Director and CEO for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis
- Armed Forces melody by the Appling Middle School Band
- Closing remarks by Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald
- Laying of the wreath by the mayor and WWII veterans
- Playing of “Taps”
Brick purchases
To honor a veteran, citizens are invited to consider buying a brick and having it placed in the memorial at the park. The deadline to purchase a brick to have it installed before the 2018 Veterans Day Ceremony was September 29, 2018. You may still purchase a brick anytime during the year but it will not be installed until the next year’s ceremony.
Holiday closures
In observance of the 2018 Veterans Day, Bartlett City Offices, the Bartlett Library, Singleton Community Center, Bartlett Senior Center & Bartlett Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.
Trash pick-up will NOT be affected for this week and will run on its regular. The Bartlett Recreation Center will be open for regular hours on Monday, Nov. 12.
