Bartlett ranks in top 50 safest TN cities

Bartlett-city-seal-300pxBartlett made the list of the top 50 safest cities in Tennessee, coming in at No. 24, according to alarms.org. Other local honorees include Oakland, 7th; Germantown, 10th; and Collierville, 12th.

Alarms.org is the official site of the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

To identify the safest cities in Tennessee, the council reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with our the council’s own population data and internal research. They eliminated any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and removed cities with populations under 5,000.

The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 100,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 70 percent of the total (due to their severity) and property crimes accounting for 30 percent.

Statewide, the average municipal population studied was 38,228. The violent crime rate was 6 per 1,000 people, and the property crime rate was 37 per 1,000 people.
