The Bartlett Police Department handled the following incidents for Sept. 18-28. This listing includes the most notable incidents for the reporting period and does not necessarily reflect all police activity.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
Sept. 18
U.S. 64 (theft)
Someone stole costly iteams from a man’s unlocked vehicle while it was parked on the 7900 block of U.S. 64 on Sept. 18, he reported to police the next day. He said the theft happened between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
When he returned he found his glove compartment open and objects strewn about the backseat. Items missing included a black Kodak camera ($500), a silver Sony camera ($100), a tripod ($30), a camera bag ($50) and a sim card ($20).
U.S. 64 (auto burglary)
A woman reported that someone broke into her 2010 Honda Civic while it was parked at Walmart (8400 U.S. 64). The incident happened between 2:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and about 6:10 p.m.
The intruder broke the small passenger side front window to gain entry. Items taken included her black Trackfone cell phone, a Bank of America Visa credit card and several other unspecified personal items.
Sept. 20
U.S. 64 (vandalism)
Video surveillance captured a vandal in the Sam’s Club parking lot (8480 U.S. 64) on Sept. 20. A man reported that he left his vehicle in the lot around 10:50 a.m. When he returned, he saw a heavy key scratch mark stretching from the rear to the front on the driver’s side.
The Sam’s Club supervisor said security video showed a male suspect exiting a silver or white Chevy truck, walking up to the victim’s truck. The suspect’s photo was taken as he exited the store.
Bristol Park (theft)
The manager of the Legends of Wolfchase Apartments (8840 Bristol Park) filed a report on Sept. 20 about an Aug. 5 crime. Someone stole a Poulan Pro blower ($250) from the facility’s maintenance building.
Altruria (burglary)
A couple’s alarm company alerted them on Sept. 20 that their home’s alarm was tripped at 1:01 p.m. Her husband looked at the live feed camera and didn’t see any movement, so he decided it must have been a false alarm. But when she got home around 3:30 p.m., she saw that the southern garage door was open and damaged to the point that it couldn’t be locked. Once inside, she saw that several kitchen drawers were open and her bedroom was in disarray. Items stolen included a Samsung tablet from her daughter’s room and two prescription bottles from her bedroom.
Sept. 21
Brunswick (theft)
The foreman of a home under construction on Brunswick reported on Sept. 21 that someone stole a new four-ton air conditioning unit from the back of the residence. He said the theft happened between 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and 8 a.m. Sept. 21.
Sept. 22
Bartlett Boulevard (theft from motor vehicle)
A woman visiting the playground at W.J. Freeman Park with her children on Sept. 22 was the victim of a car break-in. She said she arrived around 4:30 p.m. and noticed a black female in a gray vehicle of unknown make or model parked next to her. When she returned at 5:30 p.m., her purse was gone.
Sept. 23
A.E. Beatty Drive (business burglary)
The construction site foreman for Brimhalls (7472 A.E. Beatty Drive) reported on Sept. 23 that someone had stolen tools from the site. The theft happened between 5 p.m. Sept. 22 and 7 a.m. Sept. 23 when someone cut the padlocks on a storage container and removed several power/hand tools.
Stage Road (auto burglary)
A man who left his wallet in plain view in his car was the victim of a burglary on Sept. 23. The victim said he parked at 6418 Stage Road (City Park, behind City Hall) and placed his Louis Vuitton wallet on the center console while he jogged around the park between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. When he returned, the passenger window was shattered but still in place, and the driver’s door was ajar.
Germantown Road (theft from motor vehicle)
A man noticed his car door was ajar when he left home around 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 23 for work. When he returned around 5:25 p.m., he realized that a medication bottle he keeps in the ashtray was empty. Other items missing included $2 in cash and an Oakley’s sunglasses case ($10).
Sept. 24
Stage Road (robbery in progress)
Suspects were gone when officers responded to a robbery call at Robert Irwin Jewelers (6025 Stage Road, Unit #38) on Sept. 24. Officers pieced together statements from witnesses and viewed video surveillance to confirm what happened.
Around 5:35 p.m., an older model red Dodge Durango entered the parking lot at the Bartlett Boulevard entrance. A tall black male suspect (Suspect #1), about 25 years old, approached the business and knocked on the glass. He wore a black flat-billed hat, black hoodie and denim jean shorts. He opened the door and then turned right, toward the parked vehicle, and waved to the other suspects.
Suspect #2, a tall light-skinned black male, about 21 years old, wore a gray hoodie scrunched on his face to where only his eyes, nose and mouth were visible. Suspect #3 was also a tall light-skinned black male about 21 years old, and he wore a gray T-shirt and had a backpack. Suspect #3 entered the store and pulled a sledgehammer out of the backpack. Employees ran out the back door as the suspects smashed in the glass display cases. Suspect #4 stayed in the car as the other three conducted the robbery.
The robbers destroyed the glass in six display cases and took an unknown number of jewelry pieces before leaving. The vehicle left the parking lot and turned south on Bartlett Boulevard.
Sept. 27
U.S. 64 (armed party)
A caller alerted police around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 that two white males were pointing guns at each other in the parking lot of the Suburban Lodge (7380 U.S. 64). The caller said one went into a room and the other left in a gold Cadillac Silverado.
A male and female victim told officers the suspects had threatened them in an argument over a vehicle. One suspect reportedly pulled out a black handgun and said he would kill them, but they were able to close the door to their room and keep him out. It was later determined that the suspect made the call to 911 from across the street using the victim’s phone.
The male victim consented to a search of the room for any possible weapons and keys to the Chevy. Instead, officers found two used syringes, two digital scales with white residue on top, multiple small clear baggies, and several pieces of identification and insurance cards belonging to people not on scene at the time. The syringes had residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.
A consent search of the male victim also revealed a roll of $750 in cash along with several more clear plastic baggies. He said the needles and scales were his.
Officers began looking into the vehicle and noticed that the displayed tag was altered. The truck was unlocked, and officers noticed that the vehicle identification number (VIN) displayed on the driver’s door was taped on and altered. Officers found the proper VIN in the glove compartment. A computer check of the proper VIN revealed that the Chevrolet Silverado was stolen out of Huntingdon on Sept. 13.
The officers arrested the male victim, and a search of his person related to the arrest turned up two baggies of methamphetamine with a gram total weight of 2.1 grams and two Adderall pills int he lining of the seam inside of the zipper to his shorts.
Officers arrested the female victim and found the Chevrolet Silverado’s keys in her front left pants pocket.
Sept. 28
Doberman Drive (theft)
A man said on Sept. 28 that someone entered his home’s unlocked backdoor the previous day and took a weapon and cash. He said the suspect took a Ruger SR9 9mm handgun ($450) from his nightstand and a coin jar ($300) sometime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
