Bartlett Police reports for Oct. 1-12, 2014

The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) reported the following incidents for Oct. 1-12.

Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.


Oct. 1


Bartlett police badgeCatalpa Hill (auto theft)

Someone stole a GMC from the driveway of a Catalpa Hill resident between 10 p.m. Sept. 30 and 5:30 a.m. Oct. 1. The vehicle had “WSI” on both front doors and the number 27 on the back rear door.

Catalpa Hill (theft from motor vehicle)

Someone stole a Sprint Mi-Fi hot spot ($50), two cell phone chargers ($10 each) and a silver iPod Nano ($20) from an unlocked Ford parked in a Catalpa Hill driveway. The theft occurred between 7 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8 a.m. Oct. 1.


Oct. 2


Germantown Parkway (theft)

Someone broke into a customer’s 2013 Infiniti M37 parked at Infinity of Memphis the morning of Oct. 2 to access the wheel lock. Items stolen included the tires and rims ($6,000).

Oak Road (auto burglary)

A burglar took a Kel Tek 9mm handgun with 16 rounds of ammunition, a Garmin GPS and a phone charger from a Toyota 4-Runner parked in an Oak Road driveway. The theft happened between 4 p.m. Oct. 1 and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

U.S. 64 (two auto burglaries)

Someone burglarized a man’s Ford pickup between 7 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. Oct. 2 in the parking lot of Firebirds (8470 U.S. 64). The suspect shattered the driver’s side window ($400) and stole two black duffle bags that contained only papers.

While the responding officer was on the scene, the dispatcher alerted him to a second auto burglary nearby at Walmart (8400 U.S. 64). The second victim said someone shattered his driver’s side rear passenger window ($200) and stole sports equipment while he was inside shopping between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 2. Items stolen included Under Armor batting gloves ($25), a Mizuno bat bag ($60), two Rawling baseball gloves ($100), two batting jackets ($100), an Easton batting helmet ($45) and a Worth Prodigy baseball bat ($150).


Oct. 5


Duck River Road (theft)

A resident on Duck River Road reported that someone stole her Troy Bilt weed trimmer ($100) from her home’s attached garage between approximately Sept. 21 and 5 p.m. Oct. 5. She said she usually leaves her garage door open during daytime hours when she is home. She could not provide suspect information or the item’s serial number at the time of the report.


Oct. 6


Stage Road (theft of bicycle)

Someone stole a teenage girl’s bike ($200) while it was parked between Petco (6015 Stage) and the Kroger pharmacy walk-up window between 1:20 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6. The bike is a dark blue mountain bike frame with street tires. The rear tire has an oblong shaped reflector between the spokes.


Oct. 7


Shadowlawn Road (theft)

Someone stole a weapon from a man’s unlocked 2004 Dodge Ram pickup parked in his driveway on Shadowlawn Road, the victim reported on Oct. 7. Items stolen included a Glock 23 handgun, two loaded 13-round magazines that were loaded and a black leather pancake-style holster. The theft occurred between 6 p.m. Sept. 29 and 10 a.m. Oct. 3.


Oct. 8


U.S. 70 (theft of trailer)

Someone cut a gate lock and stole a black custom-built nine-foot trailer ($1,200) from a U.S. 70 location between 8 a.m. Oct. 6 and 6 p.m. Oct. 7. The trailer has a dent on the corrugated steel bar of its gate, and the jack stand is bent. Other identifying features include white clear LED rear lights, a missing driver’s side reflector closest to the hitch and three welded hooks atop the side rails. The trailer also has an oversized hitch (two inches and 5/16th inch) that doesn’t fit most trailer balls.


Oct. 10


Yale Road (individual robbery)

Two black males approached a man walking near the exit to Nesbit Park (5760 Yale Road) the morning of Oct. 10, and one displayed a knife and demanded money. They chased the victim into the woods, where he lost the would-be robbers. The victim eventually made his way out of the park to the Sugar Tree subdivision, where he flagged down someone and called for help.

The victim had been repairing park bridges along with several City of Bartlett employees. He was retrieving tools from a truck parked at Richbrook and Blackburg at the time of the incident.


Oct. 12


Sugar Tree Lane (attempted burglary)

A man on Sugar Tree Lane reported on Oct. 12 that someone tried to pry open a window screen at his house. He also said BPD came to the house on Oct. 10 and 11 regarding an unauthorized person being on the property, and those visits uncovered suspect information in a bag found on scene.
