The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents for May 3-8, 2016. This listing includes the most notable incidents for the reporting period and does not necessarily reflect all police activity.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
May 3
South Earnhart (auto burglary)
A woman reported May 3 that someone broke into her vehicle sometime between 7:30 p.m. May 2 and 10 a.m. the next morning when she found that the lock had been punched. Items taken included a Hitachi drill ($200) and about $200 worth of hand tools.
May 4
Will Fall Lane (property damage)
A renter reported May 4 that someone damaged the fencing and stole her belongings. Her lease was not yet up but she had already vacated the property when the incident occurred.
The realty company advised her to screw the gate of the privacy fence closed, and she still had a grill in the back yard. When she returned to get her grill, the side gate was kicked in, the fence boards had been damaged ($200) and her grill was missing.
She said she looked into her neighbor’s yard and her grill was in their back yard. She said she texted the neighbors and told them she wanted her grill back and they told her that they were just holding onto it for her till she could get it back.
Perennial Gap Drive (theft of a firearm from a residence)
A woman reported on May 4 that she closed her garage door when she left for work but it was open when she returned at 4:25 p.m. The next door neighbor said it was also up at noon when he was home for lunch. Her Ruger was missing from the nightstand.
The door from the garage into the home was left unlocked and there was no sign of forced entry to the residence. Nothing else in the home appeared to be disturbed.
May 5
Polly Drive (auto burglary)
Someone stole a man’s Glock handgun from his rental vehicle on Polly Drive. He told officers on May 5 that the theft happened overnight. He wasn’t certain if he locked the vehicle.
The weapon was in a zipper pistol pouch along with two spare magazines. One of the magazines was removed by the unknown suspect from the pouch and left in the center console with the pouch and other magazine.
U.S. 64 (theft)
Someone made off with a customer’s Tennessee license plate at the Sunrise Buick GMC Dealership (8500 U.S. 64) while his vehicle was being serviced. The customer said his vehicle was at the dealership between 8 a.m. April 30 and 3 p.m. May 5.
Staff said the vehicle was parked in the customer service parking area at the rear of the business.
Perennial Gap (attempted residential burglary)
A woman found her garage door open when she returned home from work around 4:15 p.m. May 5, and she was certain she closed it when she left around 9:30 a.m. The door between the garage and home was dented, possibly in an unlawful attempt to enter the home.
Nothing was missing from the garage or the house. The victim’s home was also burglarized the previous day.
Santa Valley (theft)
On May 5, a man reported finding his back yard gate open around 3 p.m. the previous afternoon.
A check of his back yard storage shed showed that his child’s red 2006 Honda CRF70 dirt bike was missing.
He last saw it at 3 p.m. May 3.
May 7
Devine Street (theft)
A man said on May 7 that someone had stolen his red-and-gray Honda walk-behind mower ($1,075) from his trailer.
Briergate (theft)
On May 7, a man reported the theft of two Echo weed trimmers from his lawn trailer. There are no known suspects, but a neighbor’s security cameras may have footage of the suspect.
Thistle Ridge (motor vehicle theft)
Someone took a woman’s SUV overnight after she parked it at her child’s grandparents’ home about 11:30 p.m. on May 6. She stayed overnight to assist with a garage sale the next morning. Around 6:30 a.m. on May 7, she noticed her 2005 silver Hyundai Santa Fe and and keys were missing.
May 8
Baird (auto burglary)
A man reported that someone rummaged through his car while it was parked in his driveway between 1 p.m. May 7 and 8:30 a.m. May 8. That morning he noticed that someone had been digging in his glove department and center console, but nothing of value was missing.
May 9
Dabler Place (theft)
Someone took a black-and-orange Schwinn bicycle from a victim’s driveway between 6:30 a.m. and noon on May 9.
He described it as looking like a motorcycle with orange county choppers on it. The bicycle had a motor and gas tank with orange flames on it.
