The Bartlett Police Department reported on the following activities for the week of March 31-April 6:
March 31
- U.S. 64: Responded on March 31 to an auto burglary complaint on Row 2 of the Walmart parking lot on U.S. 64. The victim said he parked his pickup there at 12:30 p.m. that day and returned at 2:40 p.m. to find the driver’s door lock punched and his Pioneer stereo missing. A review of security video with the store’s loss prevention personnel revealed a red Mustang backing into the space near the victim’s truck at 2:26 p.m. Two black male suspects emerged and gained access into the truck. The video showed the suspects taking the stereo and leaving in an unknown direction. The Detective Division is investigating this case.
- Maher Trail: Responded on March 31 to a residential burglary complaint at Maher Trail. The victim said he arrived home around 10:40 p.m. and saw his back door had been kicked open. He immediately left and called the police. The responding officer observed the damaged back door, but there were no shoe prints or tool markings. iThe complainant said when he left he saw three possible suspects that he believed to be male juveniles who did not live in his neighborhood.
April 1
- Rivercrest: Responded around 8:20 a.m. to theft complaint at Rivercrest. The victim said someone entered his backyard between 11 p.m. on March 31 and 7 a.m. on April 1 and took a red gas can and its contents from his unlocked storage shed. The gas can was located in the flower bed of another residence on Rivercrest, and it was returned.
- Marbry Drive: Responded at 1:01 p.m. on April 1 to a complaint of theft from motor vehicle at Marbry Drive. The complainant said that someone entered her vehicle parked on the street in front of her home between 5:30 p.m. March 29 and 7 p.m. on March 31. The suspect removed several beauty products from the trunk.
April 2
- Brenners Place: Responded around 6:04 a.m. on April 2 regarding an auto burglary report. The complainant said someone broke into his car sometime during the night. He arrived home around 3:30 p.m. on April 1 and went to leave for work around 6 a.m. on April 2, when he noticed that the passenger side window of his car was broken. The complainant said his glove box and trunk had been rummaged through but nothing appeared to have been taken.
- Peachtree Lane: Responded around 3:58 p.m. on April 2 to Peachtree Lane regarding an attempted auto burglary. While the officer was en route, dispatch advised that the suspect was a white male wearing shorts and a white shirt and carrying a hammer. at 4 p.m., the officer located the male suspect at Peachtree and Thistle Point, carrying the hammer in his waistband. The officer told him to drop the hammer, and he did. While they were waiting for the officer’s backup, the suspect said he was a pill junkie and a thief and that he was trying to break into the vehicle because he saw a pill bottle. While he was being placed into the back of the patrol car, he said he was looking for cigarettes and looked into the car, spotting the pill bottle. He again said he was a thief and a junkie and was trying to enter the cars to steal something. All these statements were spontaneous utterances to the arresting officer.
- Dawnhill: Responded around 8:36 p.m. on April 2 to Dawnhill regarding a reported theft in progress. While the officer was en route, dispatch advised that the victim saw the suspect steal a chainsaw (estimated value: $50) from the side of the victim’s home at Dawnhill and place it in it in the suspect’s white Toyota Camry. The officer saw the white Toyota Camry with the suspect and other occupants when he arrived. A black chainsaw case with a chainsaw inside was in plain view on the suspect’s backseat. The victim identified the chainsaw as his, and the officer arrested the suspect and read him his Miranda rights. The suspect said he understood his rights and that he had taken the chainsaw.
April 3
- Ivanhoe Cove: Responded around 3 p.m. on April 3 to Ivanhoe Cove regarding a reported theft from a motor vehicle. The victim said his Pioneer car radio ($150) and black binder containing approximately 90 CDs ($200) had been stolen from his truck. He said he had parked and locked the truck in front of his home around 9 p.m. on April 2. He noticed the driver’s side door was slightly ajar around 2 p.m. on April 3 and found the door was unlocked. The officer saw no visible signs of forced entry.
- Tonya Marie: Responded at 4:45 p.m. on April 3 to Tonya Marie regarding a theft complaint. The victim said he noticed his car tag was missing around 7:30 p.m. on April 1 but didn’t report the theft immediately because he initially thought a friend might have been playing an April Fool’s Day prank.
