Bartlett Police Reports for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2019

The Bartlett Police Report for the period of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2019, lists the most notable crimes for that period as reported by the Bartlett Police Department. It does not necessarily reflect all police activity.

All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.

Robbery

Oak Road: A man reported a fistfight with would-be robbers. He was walking home on U.S. 70 between the First Tennessee Bank and Exxon when two unknown suspects approached him and demanded his money. They were in a late ’90s model pearl white sedan with chrome rims.

The driver tried to take his credit cards, and when the victim refused, he was punched three times. He fought back, and the suspects fled. Reported Oct. 2.

Juvenile offenses

Brunswick Road: A complainant from Varangon Academy (3030 Brunswick Road) reported four juvenile runaways headed eastbound toward Interstate 40. A Shelby County Sheriff’s Office officer caught and returned one suspect.

Both the SCSO and Bartlett officers searched the area for the three remaining suspects but couldn’t locate them. The next day, one of the runaways returned to the academy.

Varangon is a private all-boys alternative school in Bartlett. Reported Sept. 30.

Flaherty Place: Officers headed to the Bartlett Recreation Center (7700 Flaherty Place) on a report that four juveniles were pulling limbs off a tree and throwing them at light fixtures.

Officers searched the woods northwest of the center and spotted a juvenile crouched down. They ordered the youths to exit the woods and all four juveniles came out.

The officers found two damaged lighting fixtures, one of which had a limb sticking out of it. The youths claimed responsibility for the damage. Reported Oct. 2.

Burglaries and thefts

Appling Road: A woman reported a pickpocketing scheme outside the general merchandise entrance to Walmart (8400 U.S. 64).

She had her Apple iPhone 8 in the exterior pocket of her purse and was entering the store when two suspects asked her for a financial donation. Shortly after the encounter, she realized her phone was missing.

After buying a new cell phone, she logged in to her cloud storage and found photos and videos of the unknown suspects who took her phone. There are approximately 40 images and videos of the suspects, some with geographic locations attached to them. Reported Sept. 30.

Woodlawn Street: A mother reported that someone stole her son’s Apple AirPods (earbuds) at Bartlett High School (5688 Woodlawn St.). He had left them in the front pocket of his backpack in the boys’ varsity locker room during a basketball game. Reported Sept. 30.

Colonyhill Drive: Overnight, someone stole a man’s trailer ($1,500) from his driveway, where he had parked it behind his pickup. The trailer was a 10-foot black single-axle trailer with a white pinstripe. The deck was angled at the back and was stained brown. Reported Oct. 2.

Grapevine Cove: A man reported the theft of two lawnmowers ($400 total) from his yard. Reported Oct. 2.

Vehicle-related

Lawnhill Drive: A man reported the theft of equipment from his work truck. Reported Oct. 2.

Stage Road: A man reported that someone stole his handgun from his vehicle while it was parked in front of LA Fitness (6050 Stage Road). He couldn’t recall if he had locked his vehicle doors, and there were no signs of forced entry. Reported Oct. 5.

Donleigh Drive: A man reported that someone stole his vehicle from the parking lot of the Quail Ridge apartments. He also said that someone had rummaged through it the previous week and had stolen a key, but he didn’t report that incident at the time. Reported Oct. 5.
