The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents for Oct. 2-11, 2015.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
Oct. 2
Woodlawn Street (vandalism)
A white male juvenile wrote “DIO” on the main building of Bartlett High School (5688 Woodlawn St.) on Oct. 2.
The letters were power washed off the building ($100). The suspect was released on the scene with a juvenile summons.
Oct. 5
Unspecified address (fraudulent prescription)
A victim came to the jail lobby (3730 Appling Road) to report that her medical assistant (the suspect) wrote 12 prescriptions to patients for hydrocodone under the victim’s name.
The first was written on Sept. 1, and the victim said she noticed the fraudulent prescriptions when she logged into the work computer system on Oct. 2.
The victim said she confronted the suspect, who admitted writing the prescriptions. The suspect was fired that morning.
Oct. 6
U.S. 64 (counterfeit money)
The loss prevention manager at Walmart (8400 U.S. 64) reported on Oct. 6 that a suspect tried to use a counterfeit $50 to buy a printer that day.
The cashier recognized the counterfeit and called the loss prevent manager. The suspect reportedly said he received the $50 bill from a homeowner and “thought it looked funny.”
The manager said the suspect left and returned a short while later with real currency to buy the printer.
The manager printed pictures of the suspect entering the store, trying to spend the counterfeit money at the register and leaving the store in a white GMC van. The $50 counterfeit bill and the pictures have been entered into evidence.
Oct. 7
Robin Hill (theft)
A man reported on Oct. 7 that someone had stolen his red Honda self-propelled mower from his side yard on Robin Hill.
The victim last recalled seeing the mower on on Oct. 5 and discovered that it was missing around 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7.
Oct. 8
U.S. 64 (theft)
A victim reported around 1 p.m. Oct. 8 that someone had stolen the 2015 license plate registration sticker of his 1999 Mazda Millennia.
He was sure the theft happened between 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Walmart parking lot (8400 U.S. 64).
Oct. 9
Weatherburns Cove (suspicious telephone call)
A woman reported receiving an odd phone call from the 773 area code around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. She told the responding officer that it was a recording stating she had filed a fraudulent IRS tax return and must call a certain number back as soon as possible or there would be repercussions.

Multiple locations (suspicious circumstances)
On Oct. 9 a woman reported a stranger who seems to be shadowing her. She said she just wanted documentation, as she is unaware of his intentions and whether the sightings are coincidence or something else.
She noticed him Oct. 3 in the Bartlett Library (5884 Stage Road) when she was using the library’s computer and he sat down beside her. He did not speak to her; he just sat there for a while and then walked off.
However, she later noticed that he began appearing in some of the same places she visited in her normal routine: He was in the parking lot of Life Church in Cordova when she exited the building, and he drove through the parking lot and smiled at her. She has also seen him at Walmart on Trinity Road in Cordova and the Walmart at 8400 U.S. 64 in Bartlett on Oct. 9.
She has not been able to get a tag number of the man’s vehicle. He drives a dark green older model Honda Civic.
She described him as a white male with messy shoulder-length brown hair, about 5 foot 9 inches tall and skinny.
Newstone Drive (assault)
A woman reported on Oct. 9 that a juvenile threw a rock and hit her son in the head.
Oct. 10
Stage Road (theft)
A woman reported that someone entered her vehicle’s unlocked trunk while she and her family were at a park (6418 Stage Road) on Oct. 10, in the late afternoon.
Items stolen included her black leather purse ($50) that contained her iPad ($545) and wallet containing various credit cards, her ID and insurance cards.
