The Bartlett Police Report for the two-week period of March 4-17, 2019, lists the most notable crimes for that period as reported by the Bartlett Police Department; it does not necessarily reflect all police activity. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
Robbery
Stage Road: A man trying to sell an iPhone X via Facebook agreed to meet a buyer at Lenny’s on March 10. Two males approached him near Lenny’s patio area, with one saying he wanted to count the money. That suspect then handed the money to the victim but quickly grabbed it back as the other tried to snatch the cellphone.
The victim was able to hang onto his phone, and the suspects ran to a black newer model Nissan Altima or Maxima that was parked in the lot behind Lenny’s. He chased them but stopped when one suspect rolled down the window and displayed a black handgun. The suspects fled North on Brother Boulevard.
Carjacking
U.S. 64: Officers responded to a carjacking in progress around 11:24 a.m. March 7 in the Sam’s Club parking lot (8480 U.S. 64). Witnesses explained that the suspect had tried to steal two separate vehicles, and the officers identified and secured the suspect at the scene.
The first victim said she was pumping gas when the female suspect walked up and asked for money. The victim said she couldn’t help, and the suspect got upset and climbed into the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle. The victim confronted her and told her to get out, so she did.
The second victim said the suspect just walked up and said, “Give me your keys.” Then the suspect grabbed the victim’s hand and tried to take her keys. The victim screamed for help, and several citizens came to her aid and got the suspect away from her.
Vandalism
Raner Creek: A woman reported her suspicions that an angry Uber driver slashed her tires on March 4. She and her husband called a Uber to pick them up at their home and began driving them to the FedEx Forum in Memphis. The woman said the driver began playing music with explicit lyrics, and he got angry when she asked him to change the radio station. Instead, he dropped them off at a gas station on Warford Street.
The encounter didn’t end there. The driver followed them inside, yelling because he felt they slammed his car doors. He left only when Memphis police officers arrived and made him leave.
When the victims returned home after their event at the forum, they found that someone had slashed the front and rear driver’s side tires of their vehicle. They believe that the driver is responsible for the damage because of the altercation.
Stage Road: A woman found two shattered glass panels ($600) on the sliding doors at the back of her home. Reported on March 14.
Burglaries and thefts
Newstone Drive: A woman reported on March 7 that someone had tried unsuccessfully to pry open her apartment door. The responding officer saw where paint and the top layer of wood were pried off at the door handle. No other parts of the handle or lock were damaged.
U.S. 64: A woman said someone stole her wallet out of her shopping cart on March 7 while she was shopping at WalMart (8400 U.S. 64). She last saw it in her unzipped purse in the cart, and it was gone by the time she got to the checkout line.
Stone Chase Cove: A woman reported on March 8 that someone broke into her home and rummaged through belongings in her kitchen but took nothing. The responding officer saw that the window of the rear door was broken.
Beaty Drive: Someone stole a 48-foot Wabash trailer from the Brims Food Company lot (7498 A.E. Beaty Drive). Security footage showed a blue/white trailer loading it up and heading out onto Brother Boulevard. Reported March 12.
Beechill Drive: A woman reported on March 12 that someone had stolen a package from her front patio. The package contained one pair of Artix foldable wired headphones ($20). The suspect wore a blue Nike hoodie and left in a red four-door vehicle.
Unspecified location: A woman reported on March 12 that someone stole a UPS package from her front porch. It contained a Dyson V8 Absolute vacuum cleaner ($349.99).
Abigail Bluffs Drive: A man reported on March 12 that someone had stolen his van’s battery. When he opened the hood, he discovered that the battery was missing and the wires to it were cut.
Vehicle-related
Chester Cove: A man reported on March 8 that someone had burglarized his unlocked truck and taken his silver Cobra .380-caliber derringer pistol. The responding officer remembered that a similar pistol was recovered from a suspect earlier that day. The officer showed the victim a digital photo of the weapon, and the victim positively identified it as his.
Marbry Cove: A man said on March 8 that someone had ransacked his unlocked truck while it was parked in his driveway.
U.S. 64: A victim reported that someone smashed one of his truck’s windows on March 9 and stole tools while it was parked at Lowe’s (8300 U.S. 64).
Germantown Road: A man reported on March 11 that someone stole parts from one vehicle and damaged another at Infiniti of Memphis (3060 Germantown Road). Someone broke the driver’s window and stole the front bumper, grill and headlights off an Infiniti Qx50 and damaged the front passenger side bumper of an Infiniti Qx70. Surveillance footage showed two suspects (possibly males) exit a silver or white newer model Cadillac compact SUV and begin taking parts off the Qx50.
Carraway Cove: A man reported that someone entered his unlocked silver Acura and stole his wallet from the center console. He said someone also had rummaged through the center console of his wife’s Toyota SUV but didn’t take anything. He said his wife believes she locked the vehicle, but there were no signs of forced entry. Reported on March 13.
Eastbrier Drive: A man reported on March 15 that someone had rummaged through his unlocked vehicle overnight, but he didn’t find that anything was missing.
Stone Lake Drive: A man reported on March 15 that someone had rummaged through his unlocked vehicle, and several items were missing.
Richfield Drive: A man reported on March 15 that someone had burglarized his unlocked vehicles. Items stolen included a Garmin GPS ($40), a logbook ($10) and an Under Armor bag ($50).
Stonetrace Drive: A man reported on March 15 that someone had burglarized his unlocked truck. The vehicle was not damaged, but items stolen included two pairs of Oculs Binoculars ($230 and $200) and a camouflage storage bag ($50).
Baird Lane: A woman reported on March 16 that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her Apple phone charger ($40).
