The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents from July 20 through July 26. These are the most notable cases of the week and do not represent all BPD activities for this time period.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/ damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
July 22
Pine Oak Lane (theft)
A woman reported on July 22 that someone entered her open garage and stole her mower while she was home for lunch from 12:15 p.m. until 1 p.m.). The item stolen was a 21-inch Craftsman lawnmower ($200).
Germantown Road (business burglary)
About 10 minutes before midnight on July 22, an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle backed up in front of the Glamour Nails business (3108 N. Germantown Rd.). When the gray Ford Taurus pulled away and drove behind the row of businesses, the officer saw the salon’s glass front door was broken.
The officer blocked the only entrance to the shopping center to contain the vehicle and called in more officers. They found that the car was empty, but there was a Sony flat-screen TV with an attached wall-mount in the back seat. Officers searched the wooded area behind the business but didn’t find anyone.
The owner arrived and accessed a surveillance video that showed a black male peering into the business, throwing a brick through a front glass window, entering and pulling a TV off the wall, damaging the wall.
July 23
Bending River (theft)
A victim reported on July 23 that someone had stolen a stainless steel Whirlpool stove ($700) from a home on Bending River.
July 24
Shadow Fork (vandalism)
Someone vandalized a vehicle on Shadow Fork etween 5:30 p.m. July 23 and 6:50 a.m. July 24. The front and back doors on the driver’s side were scratched ($800), and someone had pried open the gas tank lid and poured sugar into the tank.
July 25
Germantown Road (disturbance)
A juvenile got so angry when told he was at the wrong hotel on July 25 that he punched a hole in the wall ($300) by the front desk. The manager of the Hampton Inn (2935 Germantown Road) said the juvenile asked if he was at the Hyatt Hotel. The responding officer issued him a juvenile summons and released him to his father’s custody.
Ruskin (auto burglary)
A truck owner said someone burglarized his Dodge Ram pickup while it was parked on Ruskin at a home he’s renovating for his father-in-law.
The damage occurred between 7 p.m. July 18 and 4:30 p.m. July 25. Someone broke the rear passenger side window ($100), scratched the driver’s side door window ($120) and stole jumper cables ($35).
Galvin Cove (aggravated burglary)
Someone burglarized a home on Galvin Cove between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. July 25. Officers found pry marks on the doorjamb of the home’s side entrance.
Items stolen included an iPad Mini ($299), iPhone 5s ($500), HP laptop ($800), Samsung 32-inch flat-screen TV ($399), six Xbox videogames ($60 each: Minecraft, Battlefield Hardline, Call of Duty Ghosts, The Evil Within, Titanfall and NBA 2K15), and an Xbox One with the Kinnect Sensor ($449).
Lauren Drive (armed robbery)
A Lauren Drive resident was robbed at gunpoint while walking home from the Countryside Gas Station on U.S. 64. The victim said he turned onto Lauren Drive and was approaching the intersection with Gail Drive when a black man in a black Ford F-150 pickup drove up, stopped and asked for directions.
Then the driver pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded everything he had on him, $280 in cash.
July 26
Bartlett Heights Cove (trespassing)
An officer detained a white male trespasser trying to flee an empty Bartlett Heights Cove apartment on July 26. The complainant said it had been vacant for several days, but she continued hearing people inside it all hours of the day and night. The trespassers fled the first time police were called on July 25. Then she heard people stomping around and bumping into walls on the current date. The arresting officer took the man to police headquarters.
Westbrook (non-residential burglary)
A man reported that he and his family were out of town July 18-26 and returned to find that someone had burglarized a detached building on his property and stolen several tools.
