The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents from July 13 through July 19.
These are the most notable cases of the week and do not represent all BPD activities for this time period.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
July 13
Bartlett Center (vandalism)
Someone used a tree branch to shatter the drive-thru windowon the northeast side of a business on Bartlett Center on July 13. The vandalism occurred between about 8 p.m. July 12 and 10 a.m. July 13.
July 14
Grand Oaks Cove (burglary)
A man reported on July 14 that more than $6,500 in firearms, ammo and other supplies were stolen from his unsecured storage shed while he was on vacation.
Someone pried open a metal cabinet and stole the following items: 10,000 rounds of .22 ammunition ($5,000), three sticks of dynamite ($50), 5,000 rounds of CCI large rifle primer ($250), 5,000 rounds of CCI small rifle primer ($250), 5,000 rounds of CCI large pistol primer ($250), 5,000 rounds of CCI large pistol primer ($250), one 8-pound container of 4895 smokeless powder, one 8-pound container of IMR 3031 smokeless powder ($250) and one 8-pound container of 331 smokeless powder ($250).
July 15
Virgil Road (theft of property)
A man reported around 7 a.m. July 15 that his trailer was missing. The trailer is 16 feet long with 2-by-8 wooden floor beams and 1-foot metal rails running along the sides.
There is a metal battery box at the front of the trailer with a wrench attached to it.
He last saw his trailer in his back yard the morning of July 14, and he was away from the property between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 14.
Nob Hill (residential burglary)
A man reported on July 15 that someone broke into his home between 7:45 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. and stole multiple items.
The suspect gained entry by breaking the back door’s glass.
Items stolen included a silver Bulova watch ($100), a gold and silver Vince Camuto watch ($100) and a gold Michael Kors watch ($200).
July 16
Valley Lake Drive (auto burglary)
A woman reported on July 16 that someone had entered her open garage door the previous night and stolen about $350 in cash from her purse, which was stored in an unlocked Cadillac.
She said the theft must have occurred between 7 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. while the garage door was still open.
She didn’t discover the theft until the next day when she saw her purse on the floor of the garage.
No other items were missing from the purse, vehicle or garage, and there was no damage to the vehicle.
Trenton Drive (trespassing)
The on-site manager of the Quail Ridge Apartments reported suspicions that non-residents were swimming in one of the apartment complex’s pools.
Officers escorted her to the pool, and she asked those she didn’t recognize what their addresses were.
One person said she would come to the office to validate her address, but she tried leaving the premises instead. Officers checked her driver’s license and found that she didn’t live at the complex.
They issued her a criminal trespass warning and advised her not to return.
July 17
Bartlett Heights Drive (motor vehicle theft/passenger vehicle theft)
A woman reported July 17 that someone took her Nissan’s tag while her vehicle was parked at her apartment complex. The tag was stolen between 4:30 a.m. and 5:55 a.m.
Bartlett Crest Lane (suspicious circumstance)
A resident reported seeing a black Infiniti M35 sitting on cinder blocks in the parking lot at Bartlett Heights Apartments, missing all four wheels and tires, around 7 a.m. July 17.
The officer called the owner, who was unaware of the stolen parts ($1,800). She said the last time she saw the intact car was the previous day around 1 a.m.
A detective took photos, lifted 11 fingerprints and collected 18 lug nuts as evidence.
July 18
Carebi Lane (burglary)
The owner of Skip Hobbs Construction reported on July 18 that someone stole two appliances from a home under construction on Carebi Lane.
Items stolen were two stainless steel Whirlpool stoves with glass range tops (one from inside the house and the other from the garage). The thefts totalled $1,400.
The report noted that the burglar might have entered through an unlocked back door.
Piney Bluff (theft from yard)
A man reported on July 18 that someone stole two Good man air conditioners ($6,000) from his house while he was gone, between July 10 and July 18.
The responding officer determined an unknown suspect cut the copper tubes to retrieve the units.
July 19
Old Brownsville Road (trespassing, general)
One adult and four juveniles were arrested July 19 for trespassing at the pools of the Highland Condos complex.
Officers responded to a complaint about the trespassers just before 7 p.m. and spotted the suspects walking to the rear of the complex.
They admitted they came to the condos to swim, do not live in the complex and were not a resident’s guests.
The complex is part of the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office Anti-Trespass Program and has several clearly visible signs posted throughout the complex.
