Feb. 6

St. Elmo Road (animal bite)

A pet owner reported a dog bite on Feb. 6 when trying to rescue her five-pound Yorkshire terrier from an American bulldog weighing around 110 lbs.

She said her 14-year-old Yorkshire terrier ran out of the garage toward the bulldog, who was being walked on the sidewalk.

She heard what seemed to be a dog fight and saw that the bulldog had her dog in its mouth. She was bitten on one finger while trying to separate the animals.

The bulldog’s owner said she was walking her dog on a leash when the unleashed Yorkshire terrier ran up. She tried to pull her dog away with no success, and when she looked down, her dog had the smaller dog in his jaws.

A Bartlett Animal Control officer arrived on scene and documented the incident. The Yorkshire terrier did not survive.
