The Bartlett Police Report for Aug. 20-26 lists the most notable crimes for that period as reported by the Bartlett Police Department; it does not necessarily reflect all police activity. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
FRAUD & ID THEFT
- Nicole Cove: A man noticed that $2,100 was transferred out of his bank account on Aug. 15. A bank spokesman said a male caller requested the transfer; the caller didn’t have the account number but did have the victim’s Social Security number and other personal information. Reported Aug. 20.
- Old Brownsville Road: A man said someone made a fraudulent withdrawal from his bank account on Aug. 17. The withdrawal was made via an ATM at Tugwell Exxon at 8734 Old Brownsville Road. Reported Aug. 20.
- Azalea Hill Cove: A woman said someone accessed her Amazon account multiple times and purchased several unauthorized items between May 9 and May 20. Reported Aug. 22.
- Unspecified location: A woman said someone has been using her identity to open several online accounts. In March, an online shopping company contacted her to verify her address for a shipment. She did not complete an order or set up an account with the company. Reported Aug. 24.
VEHICLE-RELATED
- U.S. 64: Someone stole eight wheels totaling $10,000 from two new 2018 GMC Yukons at Sunrise GMC (8500 U.S. 64). Reported Aug. 20.
- Yale Road: The manager at Grace Presbyterian Child Care Center (6671 Yale Road) noticed the check engine light come on for one of the three buses parked on the east side of the business. A mechanic told her the locked gas cap was missing. She said a specific key is needed for the gas cap, and none were missing from the business. She then noticed the vehicle was missing about 30 gallons of fuel. Reported Aug. 22.
- Stage Road: Someone rifled through a woman’s unlocked vehicle and stole money on Aug. 22.
- Silverhill Lane: Someone broke the driver’s side window of a man’s truck and stole it and the attached trailer from his father-in-law’s driveway. Reported Aug. 25.
- Shady Ridge Cove: Sometime between Aug. 11 and Aug. 25, someone stole a handgun from a woman’s center console in her vehicle. The responding officer didn’t see any signs of forced entry into the vehicle. Reported Aug. 25.
- North Germantown Parkway: Someone stole rims and tires from a vehicle parked on the north side of the lot at Infiniti of Memphis (3060 N. Germantown Parkway) overnight on Aug. 25. Reported Aug. 26.
- Oak Branch Circle North: Someone stole a pistol from a man’s vehicle between Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. He wasn’t sure if his vehicle had been unlocked during that period, but there was no damage to his vehicle. Reported Aug. 26.
THEFTS & BURGLARIES
- U.S. 64: An employee at Cookout (7970 U.S. 64) said someone stole her paycheck from her apron pocket when she placed the apron briefly on a rack. The thief left her cellphone behind. Reported Aug. 20.
- Stage Road: Someone stole a woman’s purse from her shopping basket while she was in the produce area of Kroger (5995 Stage Road) on Aug. 16. Reported Aug. 20.
- Pagely Place: A woman who left her handgun in her vehicle on Aug. 20 said it went missing that same day. Reported Aug. 22.
- Memphis Arlington Road: Someone stole a woman’s black wallet from her cart while she was shopping at the Walmart Neighborhood Market (6520 Memphis Arlington Road) on Aug. 22.
- Stage Road: Someone stole a purse a woman accidentally left behind for about 15 minutes at FedEx Office (5985 Stage Road) on Aug. 24. Employees reported seeing a male wearing a black shirt with a blue logo on the front pick up the purse and walk around the store. They didn’t know what vehicle the suspect was driving or in what direction he headed.
VANDALISM
- Elmore Park Road: Someone painted racial slurs on the side of a woman’s business between Aug. 19 and Aug. 20.
- Luther Road: A woman reported that someone put sugar in her vehicle’s fuel tank on Aug. 21.
OTHER
- U.S. 70: A suspect cashed a payroll check at Bartlett Wine & Spirits on June 29, and it was returned from the bank on July 3 because the business associated with the account did not employ the suspect. Reported on Aug. 21 as a counterfeiting/forgery check incident.
- U.S. 64: An older male who had been coming in and out of America’s Best Contacts and Glasses (8350 U.S. 54) all afternoon reportedly became disruptive, and officers spoke with him. The victim said he returned about two hours later and began cursing and yelling while walking to the back of the building. The victim confronted him and began escorting him outside. At the front door, the suspect spat on the victim’s arms and chest before walking away. Reported Aug. 22.
- Germantown Parkway: An officer found a link to another crime while stopping a vehicle with a broken brake light as it was headed south on Germantown Parkway. The occupants had in their possession a walled that had been reported stolen during a robbery moments earlier. The incident was still under investigation at the time of this report. Reported Aug. 22.
