The Bartlett Police Report for Aug. 13-19 lists the most notable crimes for that period as reported by the Bartlett Police Department; it does not necessarily reflect all police activity. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
ARMED SUSPECT
Several 911 callers reported a male suspect inside East Coast Wings (2946 Kate Hyde Blvd.) with a handgun after 7 p.m. Aug. 17. The general manager told the responding officers he was working in the kitchen when the suspect began cursing. The manager fired him, and the suspect approached in a threatening manner and grabbed his arm. The two men fought, and then the manager forcibly removed the suspect from the property.
A short time later, the suspect re-entered the kitchen from the front of the restaurant and pulled a black handgun from his waistband. He displayed it to several employees before placing it back into his waistband and exiting the kitchen through the back door.
VEHICLE-RELATED
- U.S. 64: Two colleagues realized their work vehicle was missing around 5:22 a.m. Aug. 16. They had left it parked near the dumpster in the rear of the parking lot at Suburban Lodge (7380 U.S. 64). The vehicle was unlocked, and the keys were in the cup holder.
- U.S. 64: A man who left his vehicle unlocked at Malco Theatre (7930 U.S. 64) reported it missing around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Surveillance footage showed a dark sedan pull into the lot around 8:37 p.m. and park next to the victim’s vehicle. Then someone drove the man’s vehicle away with the dark sedan following.
- Kirby Whitten Road: Someone stole a woman’s vehicle from the Kroger parking lot (2942 Kirby Whitten Road) on Aug. 19. She left a friend in the vehicle with the engine running as she ran into the store. When she emerged about 5-7 minutes later, her vehicle was gone.
THEFTS & BURGLARIES
- Oak Road: Someone broke the back living room window of a woman’s home and stole several electronic items on Aug. 15.
- Fonta Road: A man said he put two handmade scarecrows in a bag on his porch on Aug. 15, and he noticed one was missing on Aug. 17.
- Stage Road: A man said someone stole his handgun from his bag a few days earlier while it was stored in the office at McAlister’s Deli (6600 Stage Road). Reported Aug. 19.
VANDALISM
- Kenbridge Drive: A man said someone shot his bedroom window with a BB gun. Reported Aug. 14.
- Ivanhoe Drive: A man found a dent on the driver’s front A-pillar of his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. He estimated it had happened in the previous three days. The dent had small scratches and red powder as if a brick had been thrown. Reported Aug. 15.
- Delaney Valley Drive: Someone damaged a woman’s mailbox the afternoon of Aug. 18. The responding officer saw two large dents on both sides of the mailbox as if it had been hit with a baseball bat.
FRAUD
- Unspecified location: A woman said someone made fraudulent charges to her checking account via a debit card between Aug. 5 and Aug. 7 in Hemet and San Jacinto, Calif. She believes her card and PIN information may have been taken from Dave and Busters (2751 Wolf Creek Parkway), which she visited before the fraudulent charges.
- Unspecified location: A woman reported being scammed out of money over the phone. A male called her on Aug. 13, saying he was with the Legal Aid Society in New York City and had her grandson also on the line, needing money to get out of juvenile detention. The second male sounded like her grandson, so she wired money to help. She later talked to her grandson and realized the call was a scam. Reported Aug. 14.
- Unspecified location: A man said someone fraudulently used his bank credit card online on Aug. 14 to order about $150 worth of merchandise. Reported Aug. 15.
