The Bartlett Police Report for the period of Aug. 12-18, 2019, lists the most notable crimes for that period as reported by the Bartlett Police Department. It does not necessarily reflect all police activity.
All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
Robbery
Stage Road: An ATM repairman at Bank of America (6186 Stage Road) said he had the ATM open when two suspects approached and attacked him from behind.
After stealing the bank deposit bin, they ran to a nearby white Buick Lacrosse and fled the area. Reported Aug. 12.
Burglaries & thefts
Shadow Hills Drive: A man driving up to his house around midnight saw a suspect riding a bicycle out of his driveway. The dome light was on in his wife’s vehicle, and the driver’s door was ajar. When he walked up, he noticed the car had been rummaged through, the glove box and center console opened, and the contents strewn about the vehicle.
He got back into his vehicle, caught up to the suspect, told him to stop and held him there until the police arrived. Detectives made the scene and took over the investigation. Reported Aug. 12.
Gillia Circle and Memphis Arlington Road: A complainant reported that someone tried to break into the small storage building at the entrance to the Gardens of Bartlett Downs. The responding officer saw a paper clip inserted into the keyhole in the storage building’s east door, and a butter knife was lying on the threshold of the door. There were no other signs of forced entry, and nothing was missing. Reported Aug. 15.
Bartlett Boulevard: A woman reported that she accidentally left her purse in the Malco Theater, and it was gone when she went back to retrieve it. Reported Aug. 18.
Vehicle-related
Lavita Cove: A woman reported that someone had ransacked both of her unlocked vehicles. Reported Aug. 12.
Northstar Drive: A woman reported that her vehicle was missing and said a doorbell camera may have captured footage of the incident. Reported Aug. 12.
Stage Road: A man said he left his truck unlocked and running while he went inside Magic Wireless (6870 Stage Road). When he returned, he noticed that someone had stolen an estimated $1,300 worth of tools from the truck. Reported Aug. 15.
Other
U.S. 64: A spokesman at Walmart (8400 U.S. 64) reported that four juveniles were causing a disturbance inside and were told to leave. They exited the east side of the building, but while still in the parking lot one of them jumped onto the hood of a gold Toyota Camry.
The youths were gone before the officer arrived. Reported Aug. 16.
Stage Road: A woman reported that someone called her, claiming to be a police officer and claimed that she had been involved in a drug trafficking scheme in New York and California. The caller then told her to buy gift cards from various stores for use in clearing her name.
She bought $5,000 worth and read the numbers to the suspect. She later realized something was not right and called BPD. Reported Aug. 13.
