The Bartlett Police Department handled the following incidents for April 3-9, 2017. This listing includes the most notable incidents for the reporting period and does not necessarily reflect all police activity.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
April 3
Memphis Arlington Road (theft of vehicle parts/accessories)
A man reported that his license plate was stolen. He last saw it on the morning of April 3 and noted it missing the same evening around 6 p.m. He only drove to the area of Stage and Kirby Whitten roads and believes that someone took the tag while his vehicle was parked in his driveway.
April 4
Claire Douwie Cove (theft)
A man who placed a game trail cameras in the woods near Claire Douwie Cove said he discovered it was missing around 1:15 p.m. March 30. It was a Spy Point Force 10 camera.
Stonehill Drive (theft)
A gun owner reported a missing weapon and pointed to a visiting friend as a suspect on April 4.
The man said he left his black Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40 caliber pistol in the living room when a friend slept over on April 3. The friend left around 6:30 a.m. April 4, and the pistol was nowhere to be found.
April 5
Jenny Lane (intimidation)
A man reported April 5 that a former employee threatened him. He hired the suspect in February for a construction job, but the man didn’t complete the work and was paid only a portion of the total before being fired.
The victim said he filed a report with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office after the suspect made several threats regarding the rest of the money. He said the suspect later called with more demands to be paid for work not completed, threatening to get his money the next time he saw the victim.
Farmland Way (theft)
A woman reported hearing noises in her back yard, turning on the outside lights and finding that a small metal plant stand was missing. It happened around 11 p.m. April 5.
April 6
Bartlett Heights Drive (burglary)
A brazen daytime burglar took gaming items and electronics, a man reported on April 6. The victim said a neighbor was a possible witness, reporting seeing a silver four-door vehicle drive up to the victim’s home around 1 p.m. and enter and exit the home at least twice.
The neighbor described the suspect as an unfamiliar man about 6 feet tall with a tattoo on his left shoulder and a buzz-cut hairstyle. The suspect wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
The victim said that, before the responding officer arrived, he also received a text message that the Bartlett Police was looking for someone in a silver Infinity as a possible crime suspect.
U.S. 64 (auto burglary)
A woman who left her purse in her truck while at work April 6 was a crime victim. She said she went to her white 2001 Ford F-150 around 3:30 p.m. for her break, got something out of her purse, covered it up with an article of clothing and then returned to work. When she returned to the truck around 7:10 p.m., her purse was gone. This happened in the parking lot at Lowe’s on U.S. 64.
April 7
Old Brownsville Road (theft)
On April 7, a woman reported a check theft. She wrote a check for her mortgage on Feb. 22 and placed the envelope in her mailbox, but it never arrived at the bank. She believes it must have been stolen from her mailbox.
Stage Road (vandalism)
Officers nabbed a rowdy group of male juveniles after one of them damaged a car on April 7. A complainant and two witnesses said they saw the suspects walking south through the parking lot of their business, and they were “being rowdy, running/play fighting.” One suspect, who wore a tan/beige shirt or jacket jumped on the hood of an employee’s 1994 Mazda Protégé, creating a large dent in the hood. The suspects then headed east and out of sight.
Officers located a group of youths matching the description, and both witnesses positively identified the juvenile who damaged the car. He was issued a Juvenile summons and released to his mother.
April 8
Stage Road (vandalism)
Someone damaged a bay to the A OK Car Wash overnight, a complainant reported on April 8. The damage included breaking the swivel metal bracket and high-pressure hose line. The complainant said it looked as if somebody tied or hung the hose on a vehicle and drove off with it.
April 9
Abigail Bluffs (vandalism)
Someone vandalized a man’s Comcast Ford work truck overnight, the victim reported on April 9. The driver’s side rain guard was broken, and the passenger side rain guard was completely missing. The front windshield also had multiple cracks in it. The victim said the damage happened between 7 p.m. April 9 and 7 p.m. April 9 while the truck was parked on the street in front of his house.
