Bartlett Police report for Nov. 1-14, 2015

The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents during the period of Nov. 1-14.

This listing includes the most notable incidents for the reporting period and does not necessarily reflect all police activity.

Nov. 1


Venson Drive (auto burglary)

A man reported on Nov. 1 that someone stole tires and rims from the covered bed of his pickup.

He parked the truck in his driveway around 7 p.m. Oct. 31 with the bed cover door closed. Inside were four tires and rims intended for his nephew.

Around 9 a.m. the next morning, he found the truck’s bed cover open, and two of the tires and rimes had been stolen.

Unspecified address (theft from a vehicle)

A Bartlett resident reported on Nov. 1 that someone had stolen a pistol from his truck.

It was a 9mm Glock 43 pistol ($500) with seven rounds and a light tan Hornady fitted leather holste($100). The weapon went missing from his truck’s center console between 10 p.m. Oct. 28 and 10 a.m. Nov. 1.

Hillman Way (theft from motor vehicle)

A woman reported Nov. 1 that someone stole her handgun from the center console of her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. Someone stole the Kimber Ultra II 9mm handgun ($1,400) between Oct. 18 and Oct. 30.


Nov. 5


North Germantown Road (theft)

The manager at the Wolfchase Nissan dealership (2956 N. Germantown Road) reported on Nov. 5 that someone had stolen tires overnight.

He was checking the property around 8 a.m. and saw a silver 2015 Nissan Altima in the rear of the lot, missing both tires ($1,000) on the passenger side. The car was last seen intact around 4 p.m. Nov. 4. The tires were Continental Contipro Contact tires, Size P215/55 R17.

Gingerhill Lane (theft)

A homeowner alleged on Nov. 5 that a landscaping man stole her red Mobile Power battery charger ($109) from her kitchen the previous day.

She said she was having some trees cut around 8 a.m. on Nov. 4 when she saw the suspect, a Hispanic male in her garage. He was holding her broom, and her battery charger was nearby.

A worker said the same person stole his yellow Dewalt drill ($200) from beneath the rear seat of his work truck. When the suspect was questioned, he said he was changing shirts and zipped up his backpack.

The business owner told officers he does not know the suspect very well.


Nov. 6


Stage Hill Road (theft from a motor vehicle)

A woman reported on Nov. 6 that someone stole her purse from her vehicle while she was picking up her children at the We Love Kids daycare (8040 Stage Hill Road).

She didn’t realize her purse was missing until she arrived at home. She returned to the daycare to make a report.

Items stolen included a black purse ($15) containing $25 in cash, multiple credit and debit cards, and her driver’s license.

Within an hour, someone had completed a nearly $500 spending spreed with her cards: The first charge was $116.18 at the Underground with her USAA credit card. The Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) card was used at the same place for $176.81, then for $194.48 at Journey and declined at Dillard’s for $325.57.

The daycare director found a suspicious vehicle on the center’s video surveillance; it pulled up next to the victims vehicle briefly and quickly left in an unknown direction.


Nov. 8


Willoughby Oaks Lane (theft)

Someone stole 15 Koi fish ($450) from a small backyard pond, the victim reported on Nov. 8.

He last saw the fish on Nov. 2 when he fed them, and his housekeeper said they were all gone on Nov. 5 when she went to feed them. A large concrete slab at the bottom of the pond also had been moved over about two feet.

Devine Street (aggravated burglary)

Someone burglarized an unoccupied home on Devine Street, the homeowners’ daughter reported on Nov. 8.

Her parents have been at their second home in Arkansas since Oct. 19.

The responding officers saw that the back door was open, the interior door casing was broken and the door appeared to have been kicked open.

The master bedroom was in disarray. A detective took photos, dusted for fingerprints and removed several items for processing at headquarters.

A witness saw four male suspects in dark clothing in the Devine/ Santa Valley area around 3 a.m. Dispatch later noted that another shift checked several juveniles in the same area around 5:30 a.m.


Nov. 9


Lamesa Lane (burglary)

A man discovered a home burglary on Nov. 9 after first noticing a plank missing from the front yard fence.

He checked the home at 4:30 p.m. and discovered the back window facing the kitchen was broken and the rear door was ajar. Items missing included poker chips ($20 dollars), a 50-count box of diabetic needles ($25), loose change ($15), and one Percocet and one Hydrocodone bottle of medication ($200).

He was last at the house around 11 a.m. Nov. 7.

Sycamore Hill Drive (burglary)

A victim reported on Nov. 9 that someone had stolen a silver Apple iMac laptop ($1,900) and three power cords ($40) from his home. His wife noticed the theft around 4 p.m.


Nov. 10


Altruria Road (auto burglary)

Someone stole a Samsung Galaxy 5 cell phone ($585) from a man’s truck at the Quail Ridge Golf Course (4055 Altruria Road).

He said the theft happened between 10:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Nov. 8. His Ford F-250 has a faulty lock on the passenger door, which may have been the entrance point.


Nov. 13


Altruria Road (auto burglary)

A man noticed his garage opener remote control ($25) was missing from his Ford Ranger the morning of Nov. 13 and that someone had also moved his personal belongings around in the truck.

He last saw the remote around 4 p.m. Nov. 11.

Kate Bond Road (disturbance)

A woman called 911 about an unknown white man sitting in her vehicle and rummaging through its contents. When she confronted him, he yelled that the vehicle was his, and that he was taking it.

The suspect told the reponding officer he had been visiting a friend at the hospital and had confused the victim’s vehicle with his own gray Ford Taurus when he tried to leave.

However, there was no other gray Ford Taurus or any Ford vehicle matching that description anywhere in the parking lot.

The interior of the victim’s car looked as if someone had quickly gone through it looking for valuable property to take: The glove compartment was open and appeared to have been rummaged through. Someone had opened the victim’s mail and rummaged through it and other documents. Items in the trunk had been moved around. The ash tray had been dumped onto the floorboard.

Hospital staff said the man walked in through the emergency entrance, and there was no one at the hospital with the name of the friend he supposedly was visiting. He also had been walking around the property, asking people for money and rides.

He was arrested and taken to jail.


Nov. 14


Pips Ridge Road (unauthorized use of a vehicle)

A mother reported her son on Nov. 14 for taking her 2000 gray Dodge Durango without permission and also for leaving her 16-month-old daughter at home alone the previous night.

She was gone from about 10 p.m. until midnight Nov. 13. The vehicle and her son were gone and the little girl was sleeping in the suspect’s bedroom when she returned.

Her son, 17, returned home in the vehicle while an officer was still on the scene. He was read his rights and admitted to taking the vehicle and leaving the toddler home alone on purpose.

He was placed into custody and transported to juvenile court on charges.
