
Emma Ames, 16, the daughter of Donald and Darlene Ames of Bartlett, has earned the Five Year National Award from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
She received this honor for performing a 10-piece memorized program annually for five years in Germantown’s Piano Guild Auditions, where she earned ratings of Excellent Plus to Superior.
She received the Guild’s five-year pin and a porcelain bust of Bach from her teacher, Benita Pepper of Lakeland.
Ames has studied piano for seven years and performed in six piano recitals. She will enter 11th grade at Bartlett High School this fall, where she is a member of the Book Club. She has performed in two school talent shows, and she played keyboard in the school Jazz Band at the 2017 Spring Festival. She also has been a member of her school choir and Honor Choir for three years.
As a member of Advent Presbyterian Church, Ames has played piano in a talent show and performed community service with her youth group as a volunteer in lawn and yard cleanups. For eight years, she has bowled with Saturday morning teams at local bowling alleys. She also competed in the 56th Annual Memphis City Youth Bowling Tournament in December, where her team won first place in their age bracket. She recently competed in the Tennessee Top 5 Bowling Tournament in Smyrna.
In addition to bowling, Ames enjoys swimming, reading and traveling with her parents.
After high school, she plans to enroll in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
