Cutting the ribbon on Thursday, May 25, for his new office was a milestone for physical therapist Jonathan Henderson, and he’s eager to finish checking off all the boxes so he can open his doors at Bartlett NeuroRehab Physical Therapy LLC and begin serving patients.
He is currently waiting for Medicare approval and will be working on accepting major insurance carriers in the region.
Henderson said doctors will refer patients who are recovering from strokes or other brain injuries, coping with Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, or suffering from various other neurological diseases. His will be one of just three local facilities specializing in neurological rehab.
His whole goal is to help people return to their functional activities, he said, and he sees opening his own facility as an act of faith that he will be able to carve out his own path. During a brief talk after the ribbon cutting, Henderson said that this endeavor involves the art of healing, vision and faith for him.
He also quoted Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Henderson finds it worth it all when he’s able to help a patient who is feeling helpless and hopeless. He told the story of one man who was so disabled by a stroke that he couldn’t even sit upright on the side of the bed without falling off, much less take an unsupervised step around the room. But within two and one-half weeks of physical therapy, the man was able to walk a short distance with a cane. He crossed about 25 feet to show Henderson his progress and then cried his heart out, saying, “Now I get to walk down the aisle at my granddaughter’s wedding.”
Henderson is an Oxford, Miss., native who moved to the greater Bartlett area about seven years ago. He and his wife have two children, ages three and one.
