Bartlett High’s $61 million “Built for Bartlett” renovation project gets underway this week, with major work planned for this summer.
Tim Weatherford, vice president and area manager for Memphis construction company Flintco LLC, listed some of the work that will be ongoing over two years, including utility relocation, the tear-down of two buildings (the cafeteria and the 100-year-old auditorium) and the start of new construction.
This summer the work also includes the building of a new student parking lot and the installation of artificial turf and a drainage system on the high school’s new football field. The turf is expected to save the school thousands annually in reduced maintenance, improve playability in inclement weather and improve aesthetics.
Flintco is partnered with Linkous Construction Co. Inc. and is working with Fleming Architects in Bartlett, Weatherford said.
“I think working with Fleming Architects and the superintendent of the schools, David Stephens, has been a very collaborative effort, making sure that this meets the needs and the desires for the Bartlett community to transform this school for years to come,” Weatherford said.
Weatherford provided the update at an informal “meet and greet” at the current high school entrance on May 24. The event displayed conceptual drawings of the renovations as well as a detailed staging and logistics plan for how construction will be handled safely once school is back in session this fall. That plan along took nine months to complete.
Bartlett High also will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the project at 5 p.m. June 4 at the main entrance to the school, 5688 Woodlawn Drive, Bartlett.
