Members of the Bartlett Exchange Club met at El Molino’s restaurant on Thursday, Feb. 1, and welcomed former president and founding member Bobby Simmons as the evening’s speaker. Simmons, a Bartlett alderman, shared his vision of the upcoming Shelby County elections where he is a candidate for Juvenile Court Clerk.
Simmons, a career Shelby County deputy, spent many years with the SCSO school resource security officers, building a rapport with students and officers, establishing a community of trust. Retired Chief Inspector Rick Holland praised Simmons’ career with the Sheriff’s Office in preparing him for the duties of juvenile court clerk. Simmons’ years in R and I (Records and Identification) and County Courts, parallel the duties of the clerk. “Kids, courts, and records – that’s been his life’s work,” said Holland. “Bobby is prepared for the position on day one.”
Exchange Clubs in Shelby County support local charities such as the Family Center on Union Avenue, a child abuse prevention center that provides programs to help families take better care of their children. The programs include: Americanism, youth programs, community service and the national project, the prevention of child abuse.
