The Sept. 12 Bartlett city board meeting focused on police honors, other recognitions and acceptance of bids for equipment and services.
Bartlett Police Department’s traffic officers were on hand to receive special honors. The BPD Traffic Unit brought home honors from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office Lifesaving Conference in Murfreesboro in August: First place in the state in child passenger safety, education and enforcement and third place in agency categories of 101-200 officers for combined traffic safety and education.
Their work includes more than enforcing traffic laws, such as educating the public about seat belts, child safety seats and impaired driving (including mock exercises with students to teach about the dangers).
Those officers also presented the “Saved by the Belt” award to Tracy Tyler, who wore her seatbelt and thus survived a serious crash caused by a drunk driver in January 2016.
