Bartlett boys down Eagles while Lady Panthers fall

Bartlett vs Horn Lake, 12-11-13, pic by Theron -3K2A6183The Bartlett boys’ basketball team improved to 3-5 on the season Friday by holding on to beat ECS 47-45 at home. After storming to a 14-5 lead early in the game, the Panthers lost some momentum in the second quarter and clung to a 25-21 lead at halftime. Bartlett began the second half hot, pushing their advantage to seven points before the fourth quarter. While the Eagles did mount a 11-6 comeback in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough for the victory. Bartlett senior guard Aaron Bell (right) paced the Panthers with eight points. Senior Ryan Miller chipped in eight points of his own. Bartlett is scheduled to host Southwind (7-1) Friday night. Led by Tyrone Banks, the Jaguars are coming off a 60-55 win against Ridgeway.

The Lady Panthers were down only three points at the half thanks to the hot hand of sophomore Jessica Jackson. Jackson finished the contest with a team high 16 points. Sophomore Tavia Rodgers added 13 points. However, the Lady Eagles used a 24-8 run early in the second half to put Bartlett away. ECS senior Avery Sippel and sophomore Emily Lytle scorched the Lady Panthers, scoring a combined 40 points. Bartlett, now 1-7 on the season, will participate in the Harding Christmas Tournament on Dec. 19-21.
