BHS class of 1929 to hold 1st reunion
Plans for the 50th reunion of the Bartlett High School class of 1929 are being made now, the first reunion that group has ever had. The event is to be held at 4 p.m. May 19 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrester.
Forrester was the vice-president of the graduating class of 10 girls and 13 boys.
“We’ve gotten the invitations out and indications are most of the class members will be able to attend, at least the ones we’ve been able to contact. You know, trying to run down these people after 50 years is like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” Mrs. Forrester mused.

Brother employees slated to vote on union tomorrow
Production and maintenance employees of Brother Industries, Inc. are scheduled to vote on whether they want to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 474. The vote is scheduled for 2-5:30 p.m. April 29, according to Grady Parks, IBEW representative.
Parks said he feels good about the chances of the vote going in favor of the union.
He said there are about 70 employees on the in-plant committee to unionize, out of about 390 eligible voters.
Parks said the vote will end about a year and a half of intense campaigning.

Britt convicted for trying to kill wife and mother-in-law
John W. Britt, 37, was found guilty on Friday of two counts of solicitation to commit first degree murder for trying to hire someone to kill his wife and mother-in-law a year ago.
He faces sentencing by Judge Bernie Weinman on May 21 for the class B felony, which carries a standard sentence of eight to 12 years in prison.
Britt, who was the former head of security for Memphis City Schools, was arrested by Bartlett police in February of 2003 after they received a tip from a confidential informant. Britt also faces one count of carrying a weapon on school property.
He is charged with carrying a firearm onto Oakhaven High School property while he was the director of Security, Transportation and Risk Management for Memphis City Schools.

City moves ahead on school vote
With what was essentially a procedural vote out of the way, Bartlett officials can turn their sights toward other issues in creating a new municipal school district.
The Board of Aldermen voted 5-0 during a special called meeting Monday night to repeal a previous referendum that established a new school district in 2012.
After that passed, the board immediately voted to hold a new referendum on July 16 that will establish another new school district.
The Bartlett aldermen voted on the matter without discussion.
