Countrywood incorporation efforts to be discussed at meeting
The continuing controversy over the incorporation of Countrywood alone or Cordova as a whole, including Countrywood, will have a new chapter tonight at a special called meeting of the Countrywood Homowners Association at 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Country Club.
The meeting was sought by members of the Committee to Incorporate Cordova, who filed a petition with Dr. Frank Adcock, president of the homeowners group. The association is required by its bylaws to call such a meeting upon petition by at least five of its members.
The Cordova Committee will conduct a poll of Countrywood residents from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. They will work out of the gatehouse, which now belongs to the Homeowners’ Association and will require proof of residence from those polled.

Bartlett stagecoach win recognition
Bartlett’s signature stagecoach, which was constructed by the Bartlett High School Future Farmers of America organization, was recently selected as a winner of the 1994 Economic and Cultural Honors (ECHO) Award for community development.
The ECHO awards are presented to recognize and applaud outstanding community achievements and Bartlett’s stagecoach project was elected along with 10 projects in eastern Arkansas, northern Mississippi and western Tennessee to receive this regional award, according to Mid-South Common Market executive vice president Louis Polatty.
“This is the third year we’ve had economic and cultural honors and the stagecoach entry from Bartlett really stood out among the finalists we had for the award this year,” Polatty said.

Hurley, Battier and Graham speak at Leadership Forum
The Fifth Annual Bartlett Leadership Forum brought three unique speakers/teachers to the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center on March 10. In order of appearance were Dr. Carl Hurley, known as “America’s Funniest Professor”; Shane Battier, a 25-year-old Memphis Grizzlies player who is committed to community involvement; and Stedman Graham, CEO of his own marketing consulting firm and leadership training company, as well as author of the New York Times bestseller “You Can Make It Happen.”

Numbers bolster Bartlett track hopes
Second year Bartlett head girls track Coach Candace Jones welcomed 26 competitors this spring, the largest turn-out in recent Panther history.
“The majority of our girls are new to the sport,” Jones said of the youthful team. “we’re working them in the weight room, teaching them the basics of track.”
Despite the experience Jones, who coached four years at regional power Raleigh Egypt, believes Bartlett can compete.
“We show a lot of potential,” she said. “we want to build consistency, to make them competitive at the state level. The girls are working hard.”
