Long-term care communities across Tennessee, including Ave Maria Home in Bartlett, have been celebrating National Nursing Home Week since May 10, continuing through May 16.
This year’s theme, “Bring on the Fiesta,” encourages a festive celebration of the staff, residents, and volunteers whose different backgrounds and cultures enhance the quality of care for residents. Weeklong activities have been emphasizing “Familia, Vida, and Amor” (family, life and love in Spanish).
Ave Maria events include a spring picnic with hamburgers and King Cotton hot dogs donated by Monogram Foods Group in honor of their 10th anniversary and Impact 10 campaign; a mariachi band playing Latin music; food truck festivals for elders, staff, and visitors; and an essay contest on “What Caring Means” with a $100 cash award. Staff members are also being encouraged to enter baby pictures for a “Who Can Name the Most Babies” contest.
According to Marlene Siegel, administrator at Ave Maria, “Our nursing home staff are committed to providing a meaningful, faith based, home-like environment for our elders, and providing the highest level of care to meet their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. We want to recognize and thank the everyday efforts of the staff, family members, and volunteers.”
