Teddybears go to Le Bonheur for blood donors

2015 bear-printLifeblood is donating plush bears to patients at Le Bonheur for each donor that gives blood or platelets Dec. 1-15. Here are two opportunities:

  • Dec. 4: Insight Risk Management LLC at 7200 Goodlett Farms Parkway, Cordova. Hours: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Dec. 6: Sycamore View Church of Christ, 1910 Sycamore View, Bartlett. Hours: 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Christmas fun to fill weekend

Here are some ways to get that Christmas spirit:

  • Bartlett Christmas tree lighting: 6 p.m. Dec. 4, Singleton Community Center, 7266 Third Rd.
  • Lakeland’s Christmas Festival: 6-8:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the I.H. Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Road.
  • Bartlett Community Concert Band’s Christmas Concert: 7 p.m., Dec. 4, at the M.R. Dye Public Library, 2885 Goodman Road, Horn Lake, Miss.
  • Bartlet Christmas Parade: 4 p.m. Dec. 5 on Stage Road between Bartlett Boulevard and Shelby Street.

IKEA to break ground Dec. 10

Next Thursday, Dec. 10, Swedish retailer IKEA will break ground for its long-awaited Memphis store, due to open in the fall of 2016. The event will be at 10 a.m., and Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell are expected to attend.

It will be a 271,000-square-foot home furnishings store located on 35 acres behind the Costco on Germantown Parkway, and it is expected to employ about 225 people. The facility will be the company’s 43rd store in the U.S.
