Artsfest to show musical talents of SCS students

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As a part of the fifth annual ArtsFest, nearly 300 Shelby County Schools elementary students will showcase their musical talents in the annual Orff Music All-City Concert.

This year’s concert theme is Snapshots of Sound. Students from nearly 80 schools have spent months preparing for this free concert that will be held at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m.

This year’s concert will feature a wide variety of musical numbers arranged by teachers and performed by student musicians. The concert theme and performances will provide a “snapshot” of some of the best musical selections from previous All-City concerts.

The Orff All-City Concert recognizes the work of the late German composer Carl Orff. During his lifetime, Orff, who also served as an educator, established an internationally accepted music education curriculum for children – Orff-Schulwerk. The Orff-Schulwerk approach to elementary music education has been adopted not only by SCS, but also across the nation and the world.
