The Arlington Town Board passed all items on the agenda for its Sept. 6 meeting, including the purchase of nearly 48 acres of land.
The town bought 47.481 acres on U.S. 70 for $125,000 from Joanna Durham and Julian Williamson III.
Town Administrator Cathy Durant said the majority of the property is a lake, and it is adjacent to Arlington’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.
“Our desire is to keep the property as natural as possible and maybe in the future develop into a nature trail in compliance with our Loosahatchie Greenway Trail Plan,” she said. “Currently the property has a restricted access, via TDOT, and is located in the floodplain.”
The board’s actions also included deletion of the motor vehicle tax from Ordinance 2016-10 (first reading), approval of a FY2016-17 budget amendment, and a routine agreement with Memphis Light Gas and Water to collect the city’s storm water fees. The town also presented a certificate of appreciation to Bellevue Arlington for their work during the Jerusalem Project at the Community Garden.
