The Arlington Beer Board heard two cases at its March 3 meeting as a result of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office sting operations. The board resolved those cases and deferred review of a third case until a future meeting:

  • Violation of off-premises beer sales for the permit holder of the Exxon Center (4935 Airline Road, Arlington) for the sale of a 25-ounce beer to a minor. The fine levied was $1,000, to be paid within 10 days. The maximum could have been $2,500.
  • Violation of off-premises beer sales for the permit holder of the Airline Market and Deli (6115 Airline Road, Arlington) for the sale of beer to a minor. The fine levied was $1,000, to be paid within 10 days. The maximum could have been $2,500.

The beer board is staffed by the mayor and aldermen, and several commented that businesses need to take these violations seriously. Brian Thompson (alderman, Position 6), said that both businesses had personnel who looked at a license that clearly identifies the customer as a minor, but the sale proceeded anyway. He cautioned the beer permit holders to ensure their employees are well trained and more careful with IDs in the future.
