Arlington and Lakeland ranked in the top 10 on NerdWallet.com’s list of “Best Cities for Young Families,” which rated 99 cities in Tennessee.
- Arlington, in first place for its high prosperity and family friendliness. The town saw a 77.4 percent increase in family income over the past 15 years and a zero poverty rate for families with young children.
- Lakeland, in seventh place for quality schools and the only city in the top 10 to earn a perfect score at great-schools.org. The median home value of $226,200 makes Lakeland one of the more expensive locales, but NerdWallet.com notes, “The high home values reflect a trend of prosperity in Lakeland, which has seen its median family incomes rise 58 percent in the past 15 years. The city of 12,000 maintains a commitment to its green space, and last year it received its ninth consecutive Tree City USA award for planting and preserving trees.”
