Bartlett Youth Citizens Police Academy is accepting applications from teens ages 14-16 now through May 28.
The purpose of the academy is to increase the understanding of law enforcement by young citizens through education and interaction with members of the city’s police department.
The academy gives youths the opportunity to learn firsthand, in an educational and nonthreatening setting, how the police department deals with issues facing teens today. Classes include demonstrations, discussions, practical exercises and student participation to achieve a hands-on experience. Department presentations include dispatch communications, the canine unit, traffic enforcement/patrol, DUI investigations, firing range, crime scene investigations, narcotics, special response team and felony investigation.
The class size is limited to 18 students. Applications can be picked up and returned at the Bartlett Station Municipal Center at 5868 Stage Road or at the Bartlett Justice Center at 3730 Appling Road.
