The Bartlett Animal Shelter is at capacity with cats after 49 felines were confiscated from unsanitary living conditions in a Bartlett home last week. Some have gone to other shelters, but the need for adoptive families is great.

Through January, all cat and dog adoptions are half price. Call (901) 385-6484 for more information.

The overflow of displaced cats began on Jan. 11, when Bartlett Police officers and Bartlett Animal Control personnel and representation for the Humane Society converged on the home of an alleged animal hoarder.

Animal Control removed 49 cats and one dog from the home. Bartlett Code Enforcement also condemned the structure for human habitation because of the amount of animal feces and urine in the house.
