“This is what it’s all about.” Sincere words quietly remarked in the back of a crowded library seemed to encapsulate the emotion felt by all who came Wednesday afternoon, May 3, to watch Bartlett senior Darion Allen make official his college plans to compete for the University of St. Mary Spires in Leavenworth, Kan. It is a NAIA program which is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bartlett Track and Field Head Coach Don Myers was clear in his praise of Allen and his time at Bartlett High School. “I remember certain athletes along the way. As a coach, you remember a lot of things but Darion is one of those kids I’m not going to forget,” said Myers. “He’s got a great attitude. Sometimes you’re asked to do things you don’t want to do and you’re attitude will carry you forward. Darion always said, ‘I’ll do whatever is best for the team. I’ll do whatever we’ve got to do.’ Right now he’s being rewarded with this opportunity to continue his career at St. Mary.” Darion, with his family by his side, thanked the many friends and supporters who came to celebrate with him on this special day. “Thank you for coming,” he said. “I really appreciate you all being here and I just thank you.”
