Music, film and other arts kept Arlington High School lively when High School Nation made a two-hour appearance to a huge crowd by the football field Monday afternoon.
AHS is one of just 26 schools nationwide (and the only one in Tennessee) where the traveling music and arts festival visited public high schools across the U.S., introducing students to opportunities in all fields of the arts.
The AHS event was the festival’s last stop for the fall 2016 tour. Talent planned for the concert included headliner Drake Bell (of Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh”), YouTuber Skylar Stecker, Pop duo Tryon, young pop-rock act The Catching, and Grammy award winner Kandy Burruss’ two new teen projects Glamour and Loud.
Along with a strong showcase for music appreciation, the festival highlighted journalism, film, fine and performing arts, fashion, photography, and stage production. Students were able to visit interactive zones, including the Full Sail University Media Zone, Guitar Center Music Zone, Crayola Art With Edge Zone, The Style Zone, and the Truth Truck. Each school on the tour received a donation package from HSN.
For AHS, the donation is a combination of items from sponsors, items from teacher wish lists and funds totaling $10,000, according to Arlington Community Schools Chief of Staff Jeff Mayo. He said Monday that possible items include sound mixers, microphones, cameras, musical instruments and video equipment. Items will go directly to the Fine Arts department.
