AHS and AMS cheer teams bring home national and world honors

Arlington High School and Arlington Middle School’s cheer teams brought national and world recognition to their schools when they competed in the Feb. 6-7 National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla.

The Arlington High School Junior Varsity Cheer Team won the small JV division at the UCA Nationals, the second year in a row for the prestigious award.

The AHS Varsity Team was named as a finalist in the highly competitive Medium Varsity division, and the team also placed third in the World competition.

AHS coaches are Chris Crabtree and Luke Nowell. The sponsor is Abigail Tinley, and the principal is Chris Duncan.

The AMS girls competed in both the Large Junior High and GameDay divisions as well as in the World School Cheerlead-ing Championship.

An AMS cheer team spokesman said the team dominated in the Game-Day division, beating out high school teams and bringing home a a national title — a first for AMS. The team also made history as the first-ever Junior High to win the GameDay division.
