One in six adults and one in five children struggle with hunger in the Mid-South.
The Mid-South Food Bank will debut one of its new Nutrition on Wheels mobile food pantry trucks on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Church Health, Crosstown Concourse, 1350 Concourse Ave., Memphis.
The two Nutrition on Wheels trucks are 25-foot, temperature-controlled, beverage-style vehicles.
UnitedHealthcare volunteers will be on hand at Church Health to distribute food boxes with items for families to make wholesome meals delivered by Nutrition on Wheels.
The Mid-South Food Bank distributes 15 million pounds of food each year to people struggling with hunger. In the 31 counties the Food Bank serves in West Tennessee, North Mississippi and East Arkansas, one in six adults and one in five children do not have enough to eat.
The grant will allow the Food Bank to serve nearly 39,000 individuals each year and was made possible through UnitedHealthcare’s Empowering Health commitment, which is focused on expanding access to care and addressing the social determinants of health in underserved communities.
Earlier this year, UnitedHealthcare awarded more than $1 million to seven Memphis-area nonprofits, including Mid-South Food Bank and Church Health, to expand their services.
