Dec. 1


Osborne Grove (identity theft)

Someone opened four credit cards in the name of a man who lives on the 12100 block of Osborne Grove. He received the cards from Victoria’s Secret, Pac Sun, New York Company and Goodys on Nov. 22, and someone had already charged about $600 on both the Pac Sun and Goodys accounts. All were opened through Comenity Bank, which would not give him information on who opened the account until he filed a sheriff’s report.

The man reported it on Dec. 1, telling the responding officer that whoever opened the account had access to all of his personal information. The victim could not name a suspect.


Dec. 5


Airline Road (theft from building)

An Arlington High School student reported on Dec. 5 that someone must have stolen her pink wallet from her backpack while she was at school on Dec. 3. She had it in her backpack when she left for school but noticed it was missing around 2 p.m. She thought at first it had been left behind at home, but it was not. It also was not in the school’s lost-and-found room. The wallet contained her Tennessee driver’s license and $21.


Dec. 7


Bridal Cove (misdemeanor vandalism)

A man on the 5700 block of Bridal Cove noticed that his back yard gate was open when he let his two dogs out the morning of Dec. 7 and only one came back. He discovered that the fence gate was open because the center post was broken, apparently from someone pulling on the handle.

The man said his wife was up until 1:30 a.m. and didn’t hear anything unusual. He estimated the repairs would cost $150. The responding officer took photos of the fence damage.


Dec. 9


Bevan Drive (non-specific theft)

A man on the 12300 block of Bevan Drive reported on Dec. 9 that someone had stolen a package from his front porch. A FedEx spokesman said the package was delivered at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4, but the man said he never received it.

The victim said the package contained a yellow voltage meter ($689), and he had no suspect information.


Dec. 11


U.S. 70 at Tenn. 385 (misdemeanor drugs/narcotics violation)

An officer called in a second officer to assist with a traffic stop just before midnight on Dec. 10 on U.S. 70 westbound at Tennessee 385. Both officers could smell a strong odor of fresh marijuana coming from inside the car, a 2004 silver Dodge Stratus occupied by two black men and two black women. They detained the two women in one patrol car and one of the men in another patrol car, and one of the officers detained the remaining male suspect while the car was being searched. No marijuana turned up, although one of the women admitted it was in there somewhere.

When officers returned to the female suspects, they saw a clear plastic bag full of a green leafy substance on the patrol car’s floorboard near the feet of one woman. One of the officers said he had checked the backseat before leaving the substation, per policy, and he didn’t see anything on the floorboard then. Officers detained one woman on a warrant and charged the other with simple possession of a controlled substance. The bag’s contents tested positive as marijuana and weighed 0.8 gram.

Evening Mist Drive (theft from motor vehicle)

A resident on the 3100 block of Melbourne Street, Memphis, reported on Dec. 11 that someone stole a tool bag from his Ford van’s front seat while he was working the previous night on the 5300 block of Evening Mist Drive, Arlington.

The van was unlocked while he worked between 7:30 p.m. until 9:15 p.m., and he noticed the door was slightly ajar when he returned. He wasn’t concerned until the next morning at home when he realized his tool bag was missing.

e didn’t have any suspect information at the time of the report.

Millwind Drive (identity theft)

A man on the 11500 block of Millwind Drive reported on Dec. 11 that someone had opened 11 other checking and savings accounts in his name and had written so many overdrafts that his bank, USAA Federal Savings in San Antonio, Texas, had closed his true account.

He opened his legitimate account in September 2009. A bank rep told him that someone opened the other accounts in his name on Oct. 28, 2014, and the bank blocked them on Dec. 3 because of overdrafts totaling $7,389.93.

His bank contact advised him to file a report so a fraud investigation could be done. Neither the bank nor the victim could provide any suspect information.


Dec. 12


Interstate 40 at Covington Pike (misdemeanor drugs/narcotics violation)

An officer pulled over a red Dodge Caliber at 5:25 a.m. Dec. 1 because it was going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone eastbound on I-40 at Covington Pike. When he approached, the arresting officer smelled raw marijuana in the car and saw five hand-rolled cigarettes in plain sight in the cellophane of a Kool cigarette pack. The driver admitted the cigarettes were marijuana.

The officer issued a misdemeanor citation for speeding and possession of a controlled substance. The green leafy substance in the cigarettes tested positive as marijuana and weighed 2.8 grams.


Dec. 14


Carters View Lane (other larceny/access device)

A man on the 6000 block of Carters View Lane reported on Dec. 14 that someone had made several unauthorized charges on his FedEx debit card over the past two days. The victim said he still had the card but someone had obtained his card’s information and charged four purchases to HEB grocery stores in San Antonio, Texas, totaling $861.76.

His bank’s risk management department alerted him to the unusual account activity, and he froze his account. He didn’t have any suspect information or information on how someone could have gotten his card’s information.


Dec. 15


Shetland Trail (credit card/ATM fraud)

A woman on the 5100 block of Shetland Trail reported on Dec. 15 that she learned her son was misusing her Home Depot credit card after he was arrested on Nov. 12.

When she searched his backpack she found her credit card, several receipts and pawn records, and she learned he had used her card 17 times without permission between Oct. 17 and Oct. 29. The fraudulent charges totaled $1,045.

The son was already incarcerated at Shelby County Jail at the time of the report.


Dec. 16


Airline Road (other theft/non-specific)

A woman reported on Dec. 16 that someone had stolen a silver air conditioning unit ($3,000) from her rental property on the 4700 block of Airline Road. She didn’t know when the last time she saw the equipment, but she noticed it was missing at 6 p.m. Dec. 15. No serial number or suspect information was available.


Dec. 17


U.S. 70 (misdemeanor shopping)

An employee at Kroger (11635 U.S. 70) named a woman who he said stole $60 in groceries on Dec. 17. The employee saw her get several plastic bags from a register and go into the store. Later, he saw her leave the building with groceries in the bags. He didn’t realize the groceries were unpaid until after she got into her car and drove away.

A second employee said the woman had hugged him when she arrived, and she seemed calm. A third employee said she saw a 10-piece chicken dinner in the woman’s cart that had not been paid for in the deli section. The second employee said the suspect has been known to steal from other Kroger locations.

The store’s security cameras captured footage of the woman stealing the items.


Dec. 20


U.S. 70 (misdemeanor shoplifting)

An employee at Kroger (11635 U.S. 70) called the sheriff’s office after a customer reported seeing a white man open a beer, pour it into his Subway cup and walk around the store between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 20. The responding officer found the man standing at the store’s front entrance with the Subway cup, smelling like alcohol.

The suspect said he wasn’t going to pay for the beer that he opened inside and drank throughout the store. The store employee brought the open beer the man left on Aisle 12 with the wine coolers.


Dec. 23


Country Valley Drive (misdemeanor vandalism)

A woman on the 12000 block of Country Valley Drive reported that someone spray-painted an unfamiliar symbol on a car window and “fag” in yellow on the driver’s side door of her Volkswagen Jetta sometime between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and 6:15 a.m. Dec. 23. A neighbor who runs told the victim the vandalism wasn’t there around 5 a.m. but was there when she ran back by around 6 a.m.

The victim estimated the damage would cost $300 to repair. She named a white male suspect, age 15, who lives in a nearby cove who has harassed her previously. She did not see him do this vandalism or know if he was responsible for it.

Country Valley Drive (felony vandalism)

Another resident on the 12000 block of Country Valley Drive reported vehicle vandalism to an officer while he was in the neighborhood on Dec. 23, taking a neighbor’s report about a spray-painted car. This victim said she found her Chevrolet Silverado’s rear right tire punctured on Nov. 23 ($300), and her daughter found both right tires were flat on their Chrysler Pacifica ($350) on Dec. 18. The victim said she wanted those incidents documented because of an increase in vandalisms in the area.

Dempsey Drive (felony vandalism)

A woman reported that someone spray-painted her Nissan Altima while it was parked in front of her home on the 11600 block of Dempsey Drive overnight between Dec. 22 and 23. The paint was yellow and reached from the left rear door to the back of the vehicle.

She took photos of the damage, and then her husband cleaned much of it up before deputies arrived because he was afraid to let the paint sit too long.

There was no suspect information available, and the deputy did not see any surveillance cameras on any of the surrounding homes.

Armistead Street (felony vandalism)

A man on the 6000 block of Armistead Street reported on Dec. 23 that someone spray-painted the sides of his Ford Econoline E100 van and F150 pickup in yellow paint between midnight and 8 a.m. on Dec. 23. The victim estimated repairs would cost $1,000.

He also said he has surveillance cameras, but they are motion activated and will only turn on if something moves in the driveway.

Wilder Street (misdemeanor vandalism)

A law enforcement officer on the 11700 block of Wilder Street reported that someone spray-painted the driver’s side of his patrol vehicle with yellow paint while it was parked on the street in front of his home overnight between Dec. 22 and 23. He estimated the damage was less than $500 and said he had no suspect information.

Woodson Street (felony vandalism)

A man on the 6000 block of Woodson Street said someone spray-painted the driver’s side of his Toyota Celica in yellow paint while it was parked on the street in front of his home sometime between 9 p.m. Dec. 22 and noon Dec. 23.

Deputies did not see any surveillance cameras on any of the surrounding homes, and the victim had no suspect information.


Dec. 25


Chriswood Drive (simple assault/domestic violence)

Officers arrested a man after his wife reported he shoved her and attacked her father between 3:30 a.m. and about 4 a.m. on Christmas morning at their home on the 11600 block of Chriswood Drive.

She said he had been drinking all night and refused to come to bed, saying he wanted to drive to clear his head. He argued when she wouldn’t give him the keys, she said, and then he pushed her into some furniture in their bedroom.

Her father across the hall woke up when he heard the commotion and tried to defuse the situation, but the husband got angry. When the older man tried to grab the keys, the husband pushed and punched his father-in-law in the chest. The wife said her father got free after punching her husband in the mouth, and her husband walked out of the house. She called 911 because her father needed help.

Officers found the husband walking down Belle Manor Road with blood on his mouth and shirt. Deputies determined that the husband was the primary aggressor and took him into custody.

All parties refused medical attention, and a crime scene tech took photos. There were two young children at home who slept through the fight.

Airline Road (intimidation)

A man on the 4900 block of Airline Road reported a disturbance during a court-ordered child exchange with his daughter’s mother and grandfather around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 25.

The complainant said the grandfather got angry and threatened physical violence to the complainant and his parents, who were also present. The older man reportedly got out of the car with an unknown black stick-figured object while he was upset.

The complainant said he had just gotten custody of his daughter in February, and he wanted a record of the incident because he plans to request a protection order against the grandfather.


Dec. 29


Chase Creek Drive (theft from building)

A man on the 12100 block of Chase Creek Drive reported jewelry missing after hosting a family Christmas dinner on Dec. 25 with about 16-20 people present.

They noticed the next morning that the wife’s anniversary ring, wedding ring from 1982, a custom diamond ring for her right hand, and a “past, present, future” ring were all missing. The husband also found that about $500 was missing from his black leather wallet, which had been in a master bedroom dresser. The man estimated that losses totaled $4,200.

He had no suspect information but said he and his wife were having a family meeting that day to determine who took the items.


Dec. 301


South Shady Tree Lane (theft from building)

A resident on the 12100 block of S. Shady Tree Lane reported that someone stole an engagement ring from his house between noon Dec. 29 and 2:28 p.m. Dec. 30. The complainant said the Cordova-based cleaning service his family has used for the past year cleaned his home while the family was away on Dec. 29, and there were no other visitors the rest of that day. He had surveillance tape of two employees entering and exiting the home that day, using a house key provided to the cleaning service.

His wife noticed the ring missing the next day. She contacted the cleaning service’s owner, who talked with the two employees who had cleaned the home. Both denied seeing the ring.

The diamond and peridot ring was valued at $1,500.


Dec. 31


Milton Wilson (other larceny/commercial construction)

The site manager for apartments under construction on the 4900 block of Milton Wilson reported that someone stole roofing supplies overnight between Dec. 30 and 31. Items stolen included 270 bundles of roofing shingles and 18 boxes of ridge vent ($6,000).

The property was sitting outside the apartments and was not secured, and the responding officer did not see a gate at the construction site’s entrance. The complainant did not have any suspect information.
