Real Estate Road Show set for Dec. 18

Shelby-Cty-seal-gold-on-blue-bkgroundThe next Shelby County Real Estate Road Show in advance of the Shelby County’s Tax Sale and Land Bank will be Thurs., Dec. 18, Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir said.

The event will be held at the The Great Hall & Conference Center, 1900 S. Germantown Pkwy. Sign-in starts at 9 a.m. with the 90-minute program starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Real Estate Road Show is designed to educate the public on the tax sale process and how to acquire property from the Land Bank. Tax sales are the last resort to collect delinquent taxes that are a least three years behind. There are currently more than 4,000 properties owned by Shelby County Land Bank available for sale to taxpayers. Land Bank properties can also be donated to organizations with a 501(c)(3) tax status.

Real estate data firm Chandler Reports continues to sponsor the Real Estate Road Show and will provide refreshments. Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged as space is limited. Representatives from the Chancery Court, as well as an attorney from the Trustee’s office, will be available to answer questions.

A Land Bank representative also will discuss how to purchase county-owned property and navigate its user-friendly online search tool.

Tax sales are held by the Shelby County Chancery Court with management support from the Trustee’s office. The county conducts four tax sales a year traditionally held at 160 N. Main. However, current county tax sales are being held at Memphis City Hall, 125 N. Main, because of renovations at the County Administration Building.

The next tax sale is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2015.
