The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) reported the following incidents for Oct. 20-26, 2014.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
Oct. 21
Jumper Lane (theft)
A man reported on Oct. 21 that someone stole his car’s license plate from his driveway on Jumper Lane.
Hillman Way (burglary)
A man reported that someone stole about $180 worth of items from his backyard shed on Hillman Way sometime between Oct. 15 and 18, and the suspect(s) may have camped out on the property’s far southwestern corner for one or more nights.
Items stolen included a pair of yellow metal truck ramps ($50), a black-handled machete ($50), two silver sports binoculars ($10 each), and two black motion sensor lights ($30 each).
The victim said he kept the shed open for easy access, and there was a large preexisting hole in his fence facing Interstate 40. Both the fence and shed have since been secured.
Oct. 22
U.S. 64 (theft)
An Arlington woman reported on Oct. 22 that someone stole a pistol from beneath a seat of her unlocked car while it was in the Walmart parking lot (8400 U.S. 64) around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20.
The firearm is a Taurus blue steel 12-shot 9 mm ($550). She noticed it was missing around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 21.
Oct. 23
Bartlett Crest Drive (theft)
Someone stole nearly $3,000 of weapons, ammo, protective gear and collectible items from an unlocked Dodge on Bartlett Crest Drive.
The victim said he parked his car in front of his apartment around midnight, and these items were missing from the backseat by 8:45 a.m.: A black Hi-Point .40-caliber handgun loaded with a 10-round magazine of hollow-point ammunition and one in the chamber ($250), three .40-caliber magazines loaded with 10 rounds each of hollow-point ammunition ($200), a black Level III ballistic vest (brand unknown) with front and back trauma plates ($500), a green Army bag containing numerous hand-painted collectible army vehicles, and a black case containing numerous collectible hand-painted Army figurines ($2,000).
Old Brownsville Road (theft)
A resident on Ole Brownsville Road reported on Oct. 23 that he was in his open garage around noon on Oct. 16 when a black man drove up in a white GMC Acadia, asking for gasoline to get back to Dyersburg. The victim said he didn’t have any gas to give him and went inside, leaving the garage up.
He returned a short time later to see the driver speeding away and disregarding the four-way stop at Old Brownsville Road and Woodlawn Street.
The victim then noticed his orange and black Echo backpack-style blower ($250) and red plastic Craftsman gas can ($20) were missing.
Oct. 24
Craven Road, Arlington (auto burglary)
A man reported that someone stole nearly $1,800 of electronics and other items from his unlocked 2004 Chevy Suburban at his home on Craven Road in Arlington.
The theft occurred between 10 p.m. Oct. 23 and 7 a.m. Oct. 24.
Items taken included an iPad ($600), laptop bag ($100), Regions checkbook ($20), SunTrust checkbook ($20), wallet ($40), his employer’s U.S. Bank credit card ($10) and Lenova laptop ($1,000).
Oct. 26
Baird Lane (vandalism)
A man reported on Oct. 26 that someone had egged his Ford Mustang ($2,000 in damages) while it was parked in front of his home on Baird Lane. The responding officer observed spots down the entire driver’s side of the vehicle.
Christoval Street (vandalism)
A woman said a former friend came to her home on Christoval Street the morning of Oct. 26 and wrote derogatory remarks on her bathroom mirror in red lipstick.
