Bartlett fans of live musicals and inspirational messages will have a special opportunity this Friday.
The original musical, “Job: The Now Testament,” will be performed at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett at 7:30 p.m. July 25.
Written by Memphis resident John Angotti, the show focuses on Aaron, a main character who suffers greatly in his life, faces a terminal illness diagnosis and copes with his anger and his fears. After he laments to God, a friend soothes him with a story to ease his suffering. Then Aaron journeys through a dream in which he and his friends become the characters in the Bible’s Book of Job. As the dream ends, Aaron awakes from his slumber and reveals to those gathered what he has learned.
The author said he began work on the musical as far back as 15 years ago. He came to the realization that suffering unites all people.
“If we embrace our sufferings and gather together in them, that fellowship can bring healing and love,” he said. “The Book of Job helps us to see through the eyes of those who suffer unjustly, and that love changes everything.”
Proceeds from the performance will go to the Office of Youth and Young Adults for the Diocese of Memphis to help with costs associated with the National Catholic Youth Conference in 2015.
The show will feature Michael Robinson, Chris Barnes, Amy Redden Smith, Demetria Barnes, Carla Barnes and Courtney Barnes, as well as talented youth from the Memphis area.
