Disasters such as earthquakes, major fires, chemical spills, power outages, terrorism, flooding, and inclement weather events can occur with little or no warning. Are you ready to survive?
Learn how you can prepare for all hazards and threats by taking the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training from the Shelby County Office of Preparedness, under the direction of Bob Nations, Jr. CERT teaches students what to do before, during, and after a disaster. Students learn how to extinguish a fire, conduct triage and first-aid, perform light search and rescue, and how to create a “go kit.”
Graduates gain confidence that they know what do when an unexpected event occurs. After CERT training, graduates will be able to assist their family, neighbors, and co-workers until professional rescuers arrive on the scene.
CERT training is held on two consecutive Saturdays at the Shelby County Office of Preparedness, 1075 Mullins Station Road, Memphis,from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Shelby County has free disaster prep training
Find the time to take this course when you are able. I graduated from the course taught by Collierville Fire & Rescue and Collierville EMA in September 2009. Learned stuff I never knew before. Thinking that I knew everything about disasters just by being an amateur radio operator and an Eagle Scout, I came out of this course enlightened by what I didn’t know. Very well worth your time.
