GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — People who are fans of local art, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, or the whimsy of Dick Van Dyke will want to head to The Shops of Saddle Creek in Germantown on May 9-10.

Art on the Sidewalk, a festival benefiting LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, will be staged for the third consecutive year. Other than raising funds and awareness for LeBonheur, the focus is all about art of the sidewalk — selling it there, as well as drawing it there in chalk, just like Dick Van Dyke in “Mary Poppins.”

More than three dozen area artists will be showing and selling their work and drawing on the sidewalk to entertain and engage the public, as well as to compete for prizes. Visitors to the event will decide who wins, with one dollar per vote. Proceeds will go to LeBonheur.

This year, there will also be art activities for grownups, as well as kids. Adults can enjoy an alfresco painting class, while kids can participate in a range of art projects, including drawing their own sidewalk mural.

Hours are 1-8 p.m. May 9 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 10. The event will also feature food, music and surprise attractions.

Hosting for the event is by The Shops of Saddle Creek, in association with the non-profit, ArtWorks Foundation. For more information see www.shopsofsaddlecreek.com.
