Fire and exploding ammo ravage Tracy Road home Feb. 15

At just past midnight early Sunday morning, multiple engine companies from throughout north Shelby and south Tipton County raced to a house fire on the 10000 block of Tracy Road on the Shelby/Tipton county line.

About a fourth of the approximately 1,200-square-foot home was ablaze when the first firefighters arrived. The section burning contained the homeowner’s ammunition and gunpowder, which began detonating in the flames just as more equipment and firefighters arrived. The Shelby County Fire Department reported that fire fighters aggressively 

Flames did not entirely consume the 83-year-old home, but damage from fire, smoke and water was extensive. No one was hurt.attacked the spreading fire and brought it under control in under 25 minutes.

At one point, 40 fire and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were working this fire. The many firefighters available meant they had enough help to remove family valuables, including many antiques, while the house was burning.

At the height of the firefighting, there were three engine companies from Shelby County Fire, one from Millington Fire, and companies from Munford, Brighton, Three Star and Mason fire departments in Tipton County working to save the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
