The Dec. 16 announcement came after a national search that led to Morris as the best candidate, according to Bishop J. Terry Steib of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis and Janet Donato, Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
Donato said, “Mrs. Morris was appointed as interim in April of 2013 and has done an outstanding job of leading the school during this time.”
Both Steib and Donato said they believe her experience and qualifications are unparalleled. Morris has been with the school since the late 1980s, and her experience there includes classroom teacher, coach, Athletic Director, Admissions Director, Registrar, Director of Student Affairs, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal. She also has children attending the school. She received a bachelor of science degree from Union University and rher master’s in education from the University of Memphis. She is also a graduate of the Catholic Schools Leadership Academy. She and her husband, John Morris, live in Cordova with their five children. They are parishioners of the St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Morris said she looks forward to serving in her new role. “I am humbled by Bishop Steib’s and Mrs. Donato’s trust in me and I look forward to the challenges of this position.”
St. Benedict is the largest school in its system and the largest Catholic School in Tennessee.
