Almost 50 pets were blessed in a free community-wide ceremony Dec. 14 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis. In this photo, Father Jim Berends uses a rosemary sprig dipped in holy water to bless Penny, owned by Connie Apoladimas.
The event honored St. Modestos, whose feast day was Dec. 16. The women’s philanthropic club of the church, Elpis Philoptochos, sponsored the event, and Hollywood Feed donated treats and goody bags for the animals. The event raised more than $250 for the Sunny Meadows Animal Shelter.
