TDCI fines Memphis, Cordova businesses for August issues

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Regulatory Boards released its latest Disciplinary Action Report last week, which compiles the actions taken by its boards and commissions during August. Multiple Memphis and Cordova businesses and business professionals received fines.

These boards, commissions, and programs are empowered to take disciplinary action – including revocation of licenses and assessment of civil penalties – against license holders found guilty of violating laws governing their professions.

Architects & Engineers

  • Michael E. Stephens of Memphis, failure to include signature and date across seal, Aug. 17; $750 civil penalty and successful completion of Law and Rules exam

Burial Services

  • Pili Akeem Showers of Memphis, engaged in dishonorable, unethical, or unprofessional conduct of a character likely to defraud, deceive or harm the public, Aug. 13; $500 civil penalty
  • Snow Funeral Home of Memphis, engaged in dishonorable, unethical, or unprofessional conduct of a character likely to defraud, deceive or harm the public, Aug. 13; $500 civil penalty

Cosmetology & Barber

  • Lugene Bishop of Memphis, Performed acts constituting barbering in an unregistered barber shop at the time of the inspection, Aug. 29; $50 civil penalty

Funeral Directors & Embalmers

  • N.H. Owens & Sons Funeral Home of Memphis, failed to treat members of the public in a respectful manner, Aug. 21; $2,000 civil penalty
  • Cheryl Ownes of Memphis, failed to treat members of the public in a respectful manner, engaged in immoral or unprofessional conduct, Aug. 28; 2,000 civil penalty

Motor Vehicle

  • Patrick Hilliard of Memphis, failure to comply with T.C.A. §56-1-109, §56-1-312, or T.C.A. § 36-5-707, Aug. 2; suspension
