State Representative Ron Lollar (R-Bartlett) passed away Friday, July 6, 2018. He was 69.
Rep. Lollar was a 1967 graduate of North Side High School in Jackson, Tenn. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps, receiving numerous military awards, including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Navy Commendation Medal. After serving in the Marines, Rep. Lollar went on to earn his associate’s degree in history from Jackson State Community College and a bachelor of science degree in political science from Austin Peay State University.
He continued to serve in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Ceremonial White House Guard during the Reagan Administration. He was a member of the Shelby County School Board, a Lifetime P.T.A. member, and a charter member of the Arlington Kiwanis Club. His other affiliations included Memphis Jaycees, Pi Kappa Alpha, F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge, V.F.W., and American Legion.
Rep. Lollar was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2006 and continued to serve in that capacity for the remainder of his life. He was a tireless advocate for Shelby County and will be remembered for his work to strengthen education. A member of the Veterans Caucus, he was an outspoken champion of veterans’ issues.
The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, where he was a member. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett with interment following in Memorial Gardens. Munford Funeral Home – Millington Chapel had charge.
Rep. Lollar is survived by his wife, Brenda Lollar of Bartlett; daughters, Kelly Lollar of Bartlett and Shelby Lollar of Vanleer, Tenn.; son, Matthew Lollar of Bartlett; mother, Elizabeth Lollar of Jackson, Tenn.; sister, Martha Lynn Millrany of Collierville; and brother, Dr. Don Lollar of Lexington, Ky.
